About SeriesUp

SeriesUp is a team of seasoned finance professionals who specialize in working with early-stage, venture-backed startups to help them build institutional-grade financial operations and reach their growth goals. Whether it's navigating a seed round, preparing for a Series A or B, or managing a complex exit, our fractional CFOs and senior finance leaders bring real operator experience to every engagement.

We don't just advise, we embed. Our team works alongside clients as true stakeholders, getting deep into the business to deliver strategy and execution that moves the needle. Our team is fully remote, with clients spanning the country. Expect 2 in-person team meetups per year, plus travel for client meetings and board presentations as needed.

The Opportunity

*Update August 2026 - We are always accepting applications for strong candidates, but not actively targeting a full-time hire immediately.

This is not a typical in-house finance role. As a fractional VP of Finance at SeriesUp, you'll work across a portfolio of high-growth startups providing more career variety, faster skill development, and broader impact than any single company could offer. You'll operate at the VP level from day one, partnering directly with fractional CFOs, founders, and boards to drive financial strategy and operations across multiple engagements simultaneously.

You will typically manage 3–5 client engagements at a time, each requiring approximately 5–15 hours per week. Total expected commitment is full-time (~40 hrs/week). Client stages range from seed through Series B.

If you're a high-performing finance leader ready to leverage deep startup experience across a dynamic portfolio and be compensated at competitive market rates this role was built for you.

Who we’re looking for

Our ideal candidate is someone with an accounting background and recent experience in FP&A who is looking for the opportunity to work in a consulting role and use their skillset to help startups find their financial footing. They should possess a deep knowledge of cash flow management, budgeting, and financial forecasting. Their relationship skills should be above average with the ability to work closely across all levels of client partners. We’re looking for someone who is willing to work alongside clients, immersing themselves in the business in order to provide the best possible results as a stakeholder, not just an advisor. Startup experience is crucial, with firsthand experience building from scratch in an early-stage startup environment a major plus.

Key responsibilities

  • Build or rebuild financial reporting infrastructure from the ground up for early-stage clients
  • Own the monthly financial close, targeting completion within 5-10 business days
  • Prepare and independently present board-ready financial packages to leadership and investors
  • Lead financial modeling, scenario planning, and forecasting across client engagements
  • Advise on capital allocation, cash runway, and growth strategy
  • Implement or migrate accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks)
  • Manage in-house or third-party accounting, AP/AR, and FP&A functions
  • Support fundraising processes including data room prep, investor reporting, and diligence
  • Partner with a fractional CFO to provide cohesive financial leadership across your client book

Skills & experience

  • CPA preferred
  • 7–10+ years of progressive finance experience, including 3+ years in a senior leadership role at a venture-backed startup
  • Demonstrated FP&A experience: financial modeling, scenario planning, board-level reporting
  • Direct experience supporting a fundraise (Series A or beyond) or M&A/exit process
  • Proven ability to independently manage and close a monthly financial process
  • Hands-on ERP/accounting system implementation or management experience
  • Excel mastery; advanced financial modeling skills required
  • Exceptional communication and able to translate complex financials for non-finance audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple client relationships and priorities simultaneously

What Strong Candidates Will Have on Their Resume:

  • Built a financial reporting infrastructure from scratch at a startup with no prior systems in place
  • Managed a financial close process to under 10 business days at a company of 50+ employees
  • Played an active role in a successful fundraise, including investor materials, diligence, and close
  • Presented financial results and KPIs independently to a board of directors or investor group
  • Led an ERP or accounting system implementation or migration (Quickbooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, etc.)
  • Managed cash flow planning through a period of rapid growth or capital constraints
  • Supported or led an M&A process, asset sale, or venture debt financing transaction

What Success Looks Like

30 Days

Fully onboarded onto your first 2–3 client engagements with a deep understanding of each client's financial state, pain points, and near-term priorities.

90 Days

Owned at least one full monthly close cycle per client and identified and begun executing at least one process improvement per engagement.

6–12 Months

Established a consistent, board-ready reporting cadence for all clients and recognized by clients as a trusted financial partner and strategic advisor.

Ready to make an impact?

$200-$225K Annually · Fully remote · Real operator-level work across a startup portfolio.
