Description The Opportunity theSkimm, a part of Everyday Health Consumer, is hiring a Writer to join our Daily Skimm newsletter team. We create the articles, podcasts, videos, etc. that power our newsletters, website, podcasts, social channels, and more. At the Daily Skimm, we break down the trends, policies, and politics that impact women so that they can navigate their days with confidence. We tell our readers what’s going on and why it matters to them, while providing our dedicated audience of millions with reliable, non-partisan analysis and information. The Writer, Daily Skimm, will be responsible for pitching and writing content for our core newsletter product, the Daily Skimm, which includes but is not limited to politics, work, care, health, sports, tech, money, and pop culture coverage. The ideal candidate is an extremely online, read-in news and internet junkie who understands theSkimm’s voice and mission. This role reports to the Editor, News, and will work closely with their manager as well as the rest of the Daily Skimm team to create newsletter content for our audience five days a week. The ideal candidate is a seasoned journalist with demonstrated talent in and love of curating and writing across verticals. In addition to exceptional editorial and news judgment, you should have a strong understanding of how current events impact women and how women experience them. This individual must be willing to work a non-traditional schedule, Sunday to Thursday, and non-traditional hours. In addition, this individual may be asked to cover other shifts on the Daily Skimm team as needed. Key responsibilities: Pitch and write stories for the Daily Skimm, including our larger What’s Happening sections as well as smaller sections throughout the newsletter Work with the Editor, News, to produce the newsletter each day Collaborate with other team members (including Daily Skimm staff, other newsletter verticals, and the web team) to ideate and create content that resonates with the Daily Skimm reader Manage the newsletter production process, from ideation to final upload Regularly use data and audience insights to optimize content formats, and find opportunities to connect these to existing or new products As needed, work closely with other departments, including Social and Multimedia, to ensure a seamless, continuously engaging email experience for the user Pre-write holiday newsletter editions Job Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree Strong initiative and work ethic. The Company provides a range for the base pay. Factors that may be used to determine your actual pay may include your specific job related knowledge, skills, experience and geographic location. The salary compensation for this role is $70,000 to $85,000. Individual pay within the compensation range for this business unit specific role is determined based on a variety of factors including experience, scope of the role, capabilities to perform the role, education and training, as well as business and company performance.
