Youth Workbook Graphic Design Intern

Department Overview: Wisconsin Farmers Union seeks a creative, self-directed student to lead the development of a new Independent Youth Cooperative Education Workbook designed for middle and high school youth across Wisconsin and other Farmers Union states. Anticipated Start Date: 09/28/26 Anticipated End Date (If Applicable): 12/18/2026 Remote Work Eligibility Detail: All Remote Anticipated Hours Per Week: Minimum: 5 Maximum: 10 Schedule: Remote, Approximately 8–10 hours per week (UW Madison Work-Study Eligible). Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum: Minimum: $15.00 Number of Positions: 1 Qualifications: Current UW–Madison student eligible for Federal Work-Study. Graphic design experience. Strong written communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage deadlines. Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar graphic design software. Strong organizational and project management skills. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities : Experience in communications, curriculum development, or educational programming. Academic or professional interest in: Agriculture Sustainable food systems Cooperative business models Conservation and environmental stewardship Agricultural education Community development Rural sociology Youth leadership development Experience working with youth through camps, schools, nonprofits, or community organizations. Position Summary/Job Duties: Major Responsibilities Graphic Design & Publication Development (60%) Create the visual identity and layout for the workbook. Design activity pages, infographics, illustrations, maps, and educational graphics. Format content into a polished, youth-friendly publication. Prepare print-ready and digital versions of the workbook. Integrate QR codes linking to videos, surveys, additional resources, and engagement opportunities. Curriculum Development (15%) Work with the Education Director to understand the educational components of the work book. Research cooperative business models, agricultural cooperatives, food systems, conservation, and rural community development. Develop engaging, age-appropriate educational content for youth ages 11–18. Write workbook lessons, activities, reflection prompts, and community engagement projects. Incorporate real-world cooperative case studies and examples from Wisconsin and across the Upper Midwest. Pilot Testing & Revision (15%) Gather feedback from youth participants, educators, and program partners. Revise content and design based on user feedback. Improve accessibility, clarity, and engagement throughout the workbook. Project Management & Coordination (10%) Manage project timelines and deliverables. Participate in periodic planning meetings. Organize project files and maintain version control. Document recommendations for future workbook editions. --- Project Timeline September: Research & Framework Development Review existing Farmers Union educational materials. Research cooperative education best practices. Develop workbook outline, learning objectives, and content structure. Establish visual branding and design concepts. October: Content Creation & Design Draft workbook lessons, activities, and case studies. Create graphics, illustrations, and infographics. Build interactive elements and QR code resources. Complete first full draft. November: Review, Pilot Testing & Revision Gather feedback from youth, educators, and partner organizations. Revise content and design based on feedback. Refine layout and accessibility features. December: Final Production & Distribution Preparation Finalize workbook design and formatting. Prepare print-ready and digital files. Develop implementation and facilitator guidance. Present final workbook and recommendations for future updates.
