Imperial honours diverse backgrounds so we can be a place where people can bring their full selves to work, no matter their identity, race, gender, sexual orientation, age, or ability.

At Imperial, we want you to come for the position and stay for the career. As an integrated company, we are uniquely positioned to offer you a wide range of career prospects and growth opportunities through the course of your career with us. We invite you to bring your ideas and help create sustainable solutions that improve quality of life and meet society’s evolving needs.

About Imperial’s Cold Lake Operation
Cold Lake is an in-situ oil sands operation in northern Alberta. Sitting on a large, high-quality resource base, the operation is using and piloting next-generation solvent technologies that can improve production and lower greenhouse gas emissions intensity.

Cold Lake is one of the longest running oil sands operations in northeastern Alberta and one of the largest in-situ thermal operations in the world. The operation supplies refineries across Canada and the United States with the crude needed to create fuel, asphalt and other important products. The site’s past success and current strength stem from the skills, commitment and passion of the site’s workforce, made up of approximately 400 employees and 1,000 contractors including from Indigenous-owned businesses. In 2025, gross production at Cold Lake averaged 151,000 barrels per day.

What Role You Will Play in Our Team

If you are passionate about safety, building positive relationships, and working within a collaborative team environment, then we have the role for you! We currently have an opportunity within our Cold Lake asset in the Upstream division supporting and leading tank and piping integrity programs for our site.

As an Advanced Integrity Engineer, you will have the opportunity to use your skills, knowledge and experience while working cross-functionally with Operations, Maintenance, Planning, and other departments in support of the Cold Lake Plants. The opportunities and challenges in this role are dynamic, with a blend of near-term technical challenges, complimented by longer term initiatives as we support Cold Lake’s long term safety, environmental performance, reliability and profitability.

What You Will Do

  • Work with multi-functional engineering, operations, and maintenance teams, both in Canada and overseas, to support our tank and piping integrity programs. This includes working with operations and maintenance teams to plan work, and ensure annual preventative maintenance is completed.
  • Lead the materials/integrity programs for the Cold Lake plant sites, helping to ensure both short term and long term performance and integrity of the piping, and tanks for that area.
  • Manage or create corrosion control programs, update equipment strategies, enhance our knowledge of equipment degradation modes that ultimately feed into our Risk Based Inspection program.
  • Review current and forward-looking technologies (i.e. weld procedures, materials designs) and work with our material subject matter experts to assess viability for future use.
  • Develop and optimize detailed inspection plans for execution.
  • Opportunities for growth (e.g. training, mentorship, studies/projects, team lead roles, other engineering or asset team roles)

About You
Job Requirements

  • Mechanical or Materials Engineering Degree and Professional Designation (P.Eng) with 5-10 years of experience
  • Comfortable in working independently, interfacing with site personnel and able to provide work direction to contractors
  • Knowledge and experience in design standards, specifications, codes, materials selection, corrosion, welding, fabrication, inspection techniques, coating systems, non-metallics
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license

Preferred Knowledge & Skills
  • Field experience and knowledge of Oil and Gas, Petrochemicals, or in-situ operations
  • Knowledge of ASME Section IX, B31.3, B31.1, API 570, ASME BPVC SECTION VII Div1, API 510, NACE coatings, Fitness for Service API 579, Risk Based Inspection API 580
  • Experience working with reliability programs, quality programs, development of equipment strategies and degradation modes
