Site Details — Kelowna General Hospital

Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) is one of two tertiary hospitals within Interior Health and is the region’s main referral centre offering a full range of services with approximately 400 beds and over 84,000 ED visits yearly. Kelowna General Hospital is home to the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre (IHSC) which opened in 2015 and is BC’s only cardiac critical care centre outside of Victoria and the Lower Mainland. IHSC is Kelowna General Hospital’s principal surgical site and features 12 specialized Operating Rooms created for Thoracic, Urology, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Plastics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Ears Nose and Throat, Orthopedics, General and Trauma surgeries with 2 ORs dedicated to Cardiac Surgery. Our state-of-the-art Centennial Building boasts a total of 360,000 square feet, an expanded emergency and ambulatory care department, new medical inpatient units, modern operating rooms, and a rooftop helipad. Within the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre, KGH has a modern maternity ward and adjacent Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. KGH has a dedicated pediatric ward, as well as adolescent and adult psychiatry units. Enhanced laboratory and clinical departments are found in the new Dr. Walter Anderson Building. KGH is also a teaching centre for the Southern Medical Program affiliated with UBC and has an academic campus that serves as a satellite for the University of British Columbia Medical School. KGH has become one of BC’s leading healthcare centres.

Practice Details

The Interior Health Authority (IHA) of British Columbia (BC), Canada invites applications for a full-time Anatomical Pathologist position, located at Kelowna General Hospital (KGH), in the city of Kelowna, BC, Canada. The IHA serves a population of approximately 750,000 across a geographically diverse region of southern BC through 6 regional hospitals. The IHA Department of Laboratory Medicine currently has 44 regional pathologists and laboratory physicians, while additional positions are being actively recruited at several regional centres.

The successful applicant will provide consultative and diagnostic surgical pathology and autopsy services in Kelowna. The position includes opportunities to engage in academic activities in the Southern Medical Program of the University of British Columbia (UBC), which trains 32 medical students per year in Kelowna.

IHA processes more than 100,000 surgical pathology specimens annually, including approximately 35,000 at KGH.

Qualifications for the position include an MD and eligibility for a full medical licence in the Province of BC Canada with certification in Anatomical Pathology. Fellowship training or the equivalent subspecialty experience in an academic setting is required for this busy general surgical pathology practice.

For all candidates, relocation assistance of up to $9,000 - $15,000 based on move location (with eligible receipts) is available. Remuneration is governed by the BC Provincial Pathology payment grid.

Compensation

Compensation Type Administrative Contract Estimated Remuneration Compensation is based on a provincially negotiated salary grid: 90% of $380,812–$423,125 in year 1, 95% in year 2, and 100% from year 3 onward.

Benefits and Incentives

Relocation Funding Available $9,000 for moves within BC, 12,000 for moves within Canada, and 15,000 for those relocating from outside Canada, subject to maximum amounts and eligible receipts.
