Job Summary

Are you an experienced nurse leader looking for an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in a highly specialised service? We are seeking an exceptional Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to lead Ward 26, home to established Regional Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centres in the West Midlands.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a passionate multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering outstanding care for adults living with cystic fibrosis and complex respiratory conditions. As Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, you will provide visible clinical and operational leadership, ensuring the highest standards of patient care, safety, quality, and patient experience.

You will be responsible for leading and developing a skilled nursing workforce, managing day-to-day ward operations, overseeing patient flow, supporting staff wellbeing, and driving continuous quality improvement. Working closely with consultants, specialist nurses, physiotherapists, pharmacists, and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and advancing this specialist regional service.

We are looking for an inspirational leader who is passionate about delivering excellence, empowering teams, and creating a positive ward culture. You will have significant post-registration experience, strong clinical credibility, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to lead teams through change and service improvement.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

You will lead the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality care for patients with cystic fibrosis and other complex respiratory conditions, ensuring care is responsive, evidence-based, and centred around the needs of patients and their families.

You will oversee the day-to-day management of the ward, coordinating patient flow, staffing, bed capacity, and resources to ensure the service operates efficiently and safely. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, you will support the achievement of operational and clinical objectives while maintaining exceptional standards of patient care.

A key aspect of the role will be supporting, developing, and inspiring the nursing workforce through coaching, mentorship, supervision, appraisal, and professional development opportunities. You will foster a positive and inclusive culture that promotes staff wellbeing, engagement, learning, and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will lead quality improvement initiatives, support patient safety programmes, and contribute to clinical governance activities to enhance patient outcomes and experience. You will ensure compliance with Trust policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements while championing excellence in nursing practice

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Adult Nurse on NMC register.
  • Completion of relevant post registration course or experience e.g. Respiratory
  • Evidence of Mentorship training

Desirable

  • Evidence or working towards Health care management / Leadership Qualification
  • Evidence or working towards teaching/education module

Experience

Essential

  • Professional Portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
  • Substantial relevant and recent clinical experience within a complex health care setting or Acute NHS setting working as a deputy Manager Band 6 position including the supervision and education of junior staff/ students .
  • Can demonstrate understanding / experience / in practice based supervision / assessment as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council ( NMC ) standards for student supervision and assessment
  • Demonstrable current, recent experience of team leadership and management within the healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the management responsibility for pay and non-pay resources associated with the clinical service.
  • Evidence of effective multi-professional working.
  • Experience of being a mentor
  • Demonstration of a significant contribution to innovative practice or change management
  • Experience in interviewing and selection of staff
  • Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice
  • Demonstrate an ability, experience, passion in the following areas. (E )
