Radiotherapy at UHB has undergone significant organisational change and cultural transformation and with significant change and challenge comes great opportunity.

The Radiotherapy team has built an incredible and enviable reputation for cancer treatment. Our 120+ colleagues provide circa 4,500 new patients per year with world class radiotherapy treatments, utilising a range of procedures and technologies to ensure our service is of the highest calibre.

As demand on the service increases and staff numbers grow, we need to ensure continuity and recognise our people will need support and development to achieve their personal goals whilst remaining dedicated to the patients that rely on us.

To deliver this we are recruiting for a Deputy Lead Manager.

The post holder will be responsible for the leadership, operational management and strategic planning of the Radiotherapy Service working alongside the Operational Lead and under the direction of the Radiotherapy Lead Manager. This includes the responsibility for delivering a safe and effective service in conjunction with the Quality Assurance Manager and enabling service innovation.

As an exceptional leader you will provide strong clinical leadership which inspires, motivates and empowers the Radiotherapy staff across the Trust.

The post holder will also foster and develop strong collaborative working relations internally and with Trust colleagues, stakeholder groups, and externally with The SoR, and system wide Radiotherapy network.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

Your role will see you take clinical responsibility and provide ongoing support and development to a highly skilled team consisting of Technical Leads, Team Leaders, Senior Radiographers and Radiographers. As a Deputy Lead Manager, you will support your team with clinical oversight and provide guidance and clarity around best practice for patients.

Success in this role will see you working across professional and organisational boundaries with a wide range of stakeholder groups throughout the Trust and provide technical expertise to the department to ensure the delivery of a consistently excellent standard of care and treatment.

You will deputise for the Radiotherapy Lead Manager at Trust, System Wide and departmental meetings when requested and working in partnership with the Operational Lead you will provide strategic and operational input into the development of the Radiotherapy service and its clinical capacity including all workforce related responsibilities.

Applicants must hold a Masters degree or equivalent in a clinical subject alongside a BSc (Hons) in Therapeutic Radiography or equivalent. You must hold a current professional registration with the HCPC and possess significant experience as a Senior Manager, Technical Lead (8a), or Team Leader (7) and be able to demonstrate how your leadership skills have allowed you to successfully manage a large team within the NHS.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified Radiographer (e.g. Diploma of the College of Radiographers -- Therapy / Degree in Therapeutic Radiography)
  • MSc in relevant subject (e.g. Leadership, Management, Radiotherapy and Oncology) and / or equivalent experience / additional knowledge in the form of formal training / specialist knowledge
  • Master's degree in a clinical or leadership subject or evidence of continuous professional development
  • Current professional registration with the HCPC
  • Management, leadership or teaching qualification or relevant experience

Experience

Essential

  • Significant management and leadership experience within a Radiotherapy
  • Specialist knowledge of cancer pathology and disease patterns
  • Specialist knowledge of clinical radiotherapy including potential radiation risks, acute patient side effects and their effective management
  • An active awareness of relevant legislation, national cancer standards and professional guidelines
  • An awareness of the national agenda for radiotherapy services
  • Significant experience working as part of a multiprofessional clinical team
  • Able to demonstrate experience of patient and public engagement and act as a lead for complaint management
  • Able to demonstrate experience of operational management knowledge and skills
  • Track record of delivering services with national and local targets and lead on clinical governance for a specific specialty or site
  • Managing programmes of organisational change that have led to tangible improvements
  • Multi-disciplinary team leadership
  • Demonstrates excellent clinical service provision relevant to post and commensurate with grade
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the NHS and interdisciplinary working

Desirable

  • Significant experience of financial control and budget management
  • Experience of Clinical pathway development and redesign
  • Demonstrate Project Management and the ability to strategically fit a vision to implementation

Additional Criteria

Essential

  • Ability to participate in extended hours and bank holiday working
  • Ability to work from and travel across all UHB sites as required by the role
