Full Time – 10 PAs | 0.5 FTE Chichester & 0.5 FTE Worthing

£113,565 – £150,569 per annum

Join our Coastal Sussex CAMHS service and take a leading role in delivering specialist mental health care to children, young people and families across Chichester and Worthing.

Enhanced £45,000 Recruitment & Retention Package

This post attracts an additional £45,000 Recruitment & Retention payment, structured over three years:

• £15,000 on successful recruitment

• £10,000 after 12 months

• £10,000 after 24 months

• £10,000 after 36 months


The role

As Consultant Psychiatrist within Coastal Sussex CAMHS, you’ll provide specialist psychiatric assessment and intervention to children and young people across the Chichester and Worthing services.

You’ll:

• Provide high-quality specialist psychiatric and physical assessments for children and young people

• Deliver psychiatric interventions, including pharmacological treatment and Mental Health Act assessments

• Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to develop individually tailored treatment plans

• Provide specialist CAMHS clinical advice, assessment and intervention across a range of settings

• Engage children, young people, families and carers in planning and delivering care

• Provide timely specialist advice and consultation to GPs, social services and other referrers

• Support appropriate access to CAMHS and effective care pathways

• Work alongside Consultant and Specialty Doctor colleagues across Sussex CAMHS

• Contribute to clinical leadership, service development and continuous improvement

• Support evidence-based care in line with NICE guidance


Who can apply

You’ll need:

• MB BS or equivalent medical qualification

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise

• Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register, or eligibility within six months

• Approved Clinician status, or ability to achieve this within three months

• Good standing with the GMC

• Excellent specialist clinical knowledge

• Strong clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social approach and broad medical knowledge

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

• Ability to work within and lead multidisciplinary teams

• A valid UK driving licence and willingness to use it for work, or evidence of a suitable alternative


We’d particularly welcome

Experience or expertise in:

• A broad range of specialist or sub-specialist CAMHS settings

• Teaching and training undergraduate or postgraduate learners

• Clinical research or service evaluation

• Clinical audit and quality improvement

• Shared leadership and collaborative service improvement

• Using and critically appraising clinical evidence

• Working collaboratively with children, young people and families through shared decision-making


Develop, influence and lead

Psychiatrists play an important role in shaping how our services develop. This post gives you the opportunity to combine direct specialist clinical care with leadership and improvement across two Coastal Sussex CAMHS bases.


You’ll work alongside a supportive multidisciplinary team and become part of a wider Trust Consultant network, giving you opportunities to build peer relationships and collaborate with colleagues across Sussex.


As a teaching Trust, we also have strong links with Brighton and Sussex Medical School. Our services support foundation doctors, GP trainees, core and higher trainees, medical students and Physician Associate students, providing excellent opportunities to contribute to education and supervision.
