Cardiovascular Sonographer III - Echo Vascular

POSITION SUMMARY The Cardiovascular Sonographer III delivers appropriate direct and indirect quality patient care and performs scans in compliance with regulatory and department processes. The Cardiovascular Sonographer III is responsible for achieving system and department goals, and quality and fiscal targets. PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES Ensures the correct procedure is performed on the correct patient by verifying two forms of patient identification on “Every Patient / Every Time”. Completes all required written and electronic documentation accurately (ex: patient history, pregnancy, IV contrast, procedural consent, Medication Administration Record (MAR), safety portal, medication reconciliation, Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). Verifies all charges are complete and accurate for all procedures and supplies used. Reviews exam orders from medical charts and prescriptions prior to performing an exam. Performs protocols, produces images consistent with image quality standards and follows all Federal, State and Regional healthcare regulations, adhering to The Joint Commission (TJC) standards. Positions patients using appropriate technique. Identifies, prepares and administers medications properly within the technologist’s scope of practice as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. Maintains productivity as determined by leadership. Practices aseptic and sterile technique per Infection Control guidelines and policies. Confirms equipment is clean and disinfected prior to each patient encounter and reports malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate department, fellow associates, and management in a timely manner, and ensures exam rooms are clean, neat, stocked and disinfected. Work Experience MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Any one of the following: Graduate of a Sonography Program OR Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program OR Noninvasive Cardiovascular Program OR Bachelor’s Degree in Health Services OR Associate’s Degree in Health Sciences. Work Experience: None Licensure: Must hold two of the following registries in any accredited modality with at least one from each category prior to start date; Must be able to independently perform tasks for dual registry with no orientation time AND be placed on work schedule for any modality registered in: Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) OR Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS). Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) OR Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS). Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer - Pediatric Echocardiography (RCDS) (PE) OR Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS). Certification: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained. Additional Requirements: If graduating from a non-accredited sonography program ; registry is required to be obtained prior to start date and maintained. Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Must meet all requirements and expectations for Cardiovascular Sonographer II. Ability to take and pass Health First preceptor courses. Demonstrated competency in Echocardiography, with expertise in either Structural Heart procedures or Pediatric echocardiography. Demonstrated competency in Vascular Imaging and Intervention, with proficiency in either procedures or Fistula AND renal exam competencies evaluation and intervention. Basic computer skills including knowledge of MS Office – Outlook and Word Excellent communication skills in an active team environment. Ability to assess and interpret data Ability to clearly communicate with patient/family/physicians at various levels of understanding Ability to take call acknowledging emergency alerts within five (5) minutes and presenting to hospital within sixty (60) minutes of alert. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently. May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance. May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead. May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift. May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or low to loud noise. May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines. Communicating with others to exchange information. Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks. Workspace may vary from open to confined. May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
