About the Opportunity

Edgett Excavating is looking for a full-time Civil Construction Foreman based in Comox Valley, British Columbia.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will lead the day-to-day operations and continued growth of the company’s Hydrovac Division, with responsibility for its employees, customers, equipment, scheduling, and overall performance.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for coordinating crews, trucks, and customer requirements while developing employees, supporting field operations, maintaining fleet readiness, and helping the division deliver responsive, efficient, and profitable service.

Specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading, training, and supporting Hydrovac Operators and crew members
  • Coordinating daily schedules for trucks, employees, and customer assignments
  • Responding to changing customer requests and balancing competing operational priorities
  • Ensuring crews have the tools, parts, equipment, and support required to work effectively
  • Visiting active job sites to assess operations, support employees, and provide practical coaching
  • Learning to operate Hydrovac equipment and supporting field operations directly when necessary
  • Monitoring truck readiness, cleanliness, organization, maintenance needs, and equipment inventory
  • Building strong relationships with customers and maintaining responsive communication
  • Supporting the procurement of tools, parts, and operational supplies
  • Identifying opportunities to improve operations, strengthen customer service, and grow the division
  • Taking ownership of the division’s productivity, resource utilization, and overall business performance
  • Working collaboratively with employees, customers, and company leadership to deliver positive outcomes

About You

To qualify, you will need 3+ years of leadership experience within civil construction, excavation, underground utilities, or a related construction environment, including experience leading or supervising field crews.

Direct hydrovac experience is not required. Previous hydrovac experience, particularly within civil construction, would be a strong asset. Edgett Excavating also welcomes civil construction foremen and junior foremen with strong people leadership, customer service, scheduling, and operational capabilities, as hydrovac-specific knowledge can be taught to the right candidate.

The following are required:

  • Valid driver’s licence, ideally a class 1 or 3 licence
  • Willingness and ability to travel to and work across multiple construction sites within the region
  • Willingness to remain accessible by phone outside regular working hours when urgent operational issues arise

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Experience coordinating crews, equipment, schedules, and changing operational priorities
  • Practical knowledge of civil construction, excavation, and how construction work is performed
  • Strong people leadership, employee training, and crew-development capabilities
  • The confidence to visit job sites, assess work in progress, and help employees improve
  • The ability to identify operational improvements and opportunities for business growth
  • Strong scheduling and organizational skills, with the ability to respond calmly during sudden periods of high demand
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to deliver responsive customer service and build lasting relationships
  • Sound problem-solving and decision-making abilities in active construction environments
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Our ideal candidate is a person-first leader who builds trust with employees and customers alike. You’re highly organized and remain calm when demand suddenly picks up, using sound judgement and practical problem-solving skills to make confident decisions as priorities shift. You bring grit, initiative, and an ownership mindset, pitching in wherever needed and taking genuine pride in helping the division, its people, and its customers succeed.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for a construction foreman or emerging leader ready to take a meaningful step forward in their career. If you’re looking to stay closely connected to field operations while developing employees, supporting customers, and helping grow a business, we’d love to hear from you.

Compensation based on skills and experience, is a competitive annual salary of $85,000 - $105,000, and a host of excellent benefits including:

  • Comprehensive health benefits package
  • RRSP matching program

  • Company vehicle for use within the Comox Valley
  • Company phone
