Here’s the Scoop

Edgett Excavating is looking for a full-time Civil Construction Foreman, Hydrovac based in Comox Valley, British Columbia.

This is a seriously exciting opportunity for someone who wants more than a traditional foreman position. You’ll take ownership of an established Hydrovac Division with a capable team, satisfied customers, plenty of repeat business, and real potential for continued growth.

One of the best parts of the role is having the people, equipment, and company support to get things done. When a customer calls looking for help, you’ll be in a position to find a practical solution and say, “Yes, we can help.”

You’ll be trusted to run the day-to-day operation, develop the team, look after customers, and find new ways to make the division even stronger. There will be moments when several requests arrive at once and the pace suddenly picks up, but those pressure points are generally short-lived. If you enjoy solving problems, making decisions, and seeing the direct results of your work, this can be a genuinely fun role.

What you’ll be taking ownership of:

  • Leading, training, and supporting Hydrovac Operators and crew members
  • Coordinating employees, trucks, equipment, and daily customer assignments
  • Responding to changing customer needs and balancing operational priorities
  • Ensuring crews have the tools, parts, equipment, and support they need to work effectively
  • Visiting job sites to support crews, assess operations, and provide practical coaching
  • Stepping into the field and operating Hydrovac equipment when needed
  • Monitoring truck readiness, cleanliness, maintenance requirements, and equipment inventory
  • Building strong customer relationships and providing responsive service
  • Identifying opportunities to improve operations, use resources effectively, and grow the division
  • Taking ownership of the division’s productivity, customer service, and overall performance

Is This Your Next Step?

You might already be an experienced Hydrovac Operator who knows the work, understands customers, and is ready to lead the team. Experience in business, sales, customer service, employee training, or crew coordination could make this a natural next step.

Alternatively, you may be a civil construction foreman or junior foreman with strong leadership and operational skills who is ready to learn the Hydrovac side of the business. Hydrovac-specific knowledge can be taught to the right person.

To qualify, you will need 3+ years of experience in hydrovac operations, civil construction, excavation, underground utilities, or a related construction environment, along with demonstrated leadership potential.

The following are required:

  • Valid driver’s licence, ideally a class 1 or 3 licence
  • Willingness and ability to travel to and work across multiple construction sites within the region
  • Willingness to remain accessible by phone outside regular working hours when urgent operational issues arise

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Experience coordinating crews, equipment, schedules, and changing operational priorities
  • Practical knowledge of civil construction, excavation, and how construction work is performed
  • Strong people leadership, employee training, and crew-development capabilities
  • The confidence to visit job sites, assess work in progress, and help employees improve
  • The ability to identify operational improvements and opportunities for business growth
  • Strong scheduling and organizational skills, with the ability to respond calmly during sudden periods of high demand
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to deliver responsive customer service and build lasting relationships
  • Sound problem-solving and decision-making abilities in active construction environments
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

You enjoy being close to the action, but you also know how to trust and develop the people around you. You build good relationships with crews and customers, stay level-headed when the phone suddenly starts ringing, and aren’t afraid to make a decision. You bring grit, initiative, and a genuine sense of ownership, and you’re always willing to pitch in when the team needs you.

This is your opportunity to take ownership of a strong Hydrovac operation and make it even better. You’ll develop a great crew, look after loyal customers, and directly influence where the division goes next.

Compensation based on skills and experience, is a competitive annual salary of $85,000 - $105,000, and a host of excellent benefits including:

  • Comprehensive health benefits package
