Employees at this entry level solve problems in engineering areas of specialization with close supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. They have knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures. Responsibilities Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of routine problems in area of expertise. Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees. Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches associated with the resolution of routine technical problems. Conducts basic engineering studies requiring little evaluation or ingenuity. Possesses knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures. Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files. Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally. Basic/Required Qualifications Nuclear Engineer I Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master 's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Nuclear Engineer II Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited school will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree. Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience or 1 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer Preferred Qualifications BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program. Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds Good written and oral communication skills Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam Understanding of basic principles of project management Experience in the utility industry Working Conditions Onsite Mobility Classification – Work will be performed at a company facility. Reliable, consistent transportation is required to ensure timely arrival at the applicable facility. Some business units may require visits to field sites and/or plants On-call duty responsibilities will apply. Ability to perform field walk-downs in an operating plant. Some travel off the Duke Energy system may be involved. Specific Requirements Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree Able to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access. Willingness to work extended hours with changes in work schedule whenever necessary which at times could include call outs to support stations in an emergent condition. This position may be required to have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty. Required to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, fall protection, etc.) as needed.
