Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow in General Surgery. There are two permanent posts available, based at Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen. The posts are full time.

The successful candidates will participate in the on call rota.

The post holders will join a friendly and dynamic surgical team in Glangwili Hospital and across the wider health board. They will work as part of a multidisciplinary team throughout the hospital, providing a quality general surgery service to patients, under the supervision of senior clinical staff.

Whilst these are not training posts, there is protected teaching and training time with support from clinical educational supervisors within the department.

Main duties of the job

The posts will provide support to both emergency and elective general surgery services at Glangwili hospital and elective general surgery services at Prince Philip Hospital. This will include supervision of all admissions to the Wards, clinical investigations, diagnosis and treatment of all patients admitted, including the maintaining of clinical notes and completion of discharge summaries. The post holder will be under the supervision of a team of specialty doctors and will be accountable to the consultant surgeons.

There is also an expectation to participate in appropriate clinical audits and prepare and present cases at the department's monthly clinical governance meetings.

These duties will be located at Glangwili and Prince Philip Hospitals in Carmarthenshire, but service needs may require the successful applicant to work across other sites within the health board.

• 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
