The Clinical Veterinarian plays a vital role in ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare and veterinary care within a dynamic research environment. This position is responsible for providing comprehensive clinical and surgical support while partnering with research, operations, and compliance teams to promote ethical, humane, and regulatory‑compliant animal care. The Clinical Veterinarian directly contributes to the success of the animal care and research program by safeguarding animal health, supporting scientific integrity, and fostering a culture of excellence. Provide exceptional veterinary medical care to support the health, well‑being, and humane treatment of all animals within the program, in full compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. Oversee and ensure adherence to approved animal research protocols to include monitoring of animal procedures and collaboration with research staff to promote best practices. Deliver clinical and surgical veterinary support across the animal care program, including diagnosis, treatment, preventive care, and post‑procedural monitoring. Ensure animal facilities, practices, and programs meet or exceed regulatory and accreditation standards related to animal research and welfare. Develop, present, and lead training programs for staff and researchers on humane animal care, veterinary procedures, and regulatory requirements. Partner with the Director and institutional health and safety officials to implement and execute animal health, biosafety, and occupational safety initiatives. Serve as a trusted subject‑matter expert and collaborator across multidisciplinary teams. Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and continuous improvement of the animal care program. Demonstrated ability to perform fundamental veterinary procedures and techniques efficiently, skillfully, and compassionately. Strong capability to conduct thorough clinical evaluations of animals and assess environmental and housing conditions. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively educate, collaborate, and influence diverse stakeholders. This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.
