Apex Group is seeking a senior leader to assume the role of Head of Portfolio Management and Conducting Officer within its Luxembourg ManCo platform. The Conducting Officer / Head of Portfolio Management is responsible for the effective oversight and supervision of portfolio management activities performed by the Management Company and its delegates. The role ensures full compliance with Luxembourg regulatory requirements (CSSF), applicable EU directives (UCITS/AIFM), and internal governance standards while delivering robust investment oversight and risk-aware decision-making. This role combines: Regulatory accountability as an approved Conducting Officer responsible for Portfolio Management Direct management/supervision of the portfolio management teams for both AIFs and UCITs, teams in charge of managing portfolios based on an advisory model. Strategic leadership of portfolio management oversight across a diversified and growing client and product base The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring robust investment oversight, regulatory compliance, and operating model scalability, supporting Apex’s ambition to be the leading third-party ManCo platform. Key Responsibilities Regulatory & Conducting Officer Responsibilities Act as Conducting Officer responsible for Portfolio Management / Investment Management, ensuring sound and prudent management of the IFM Ensure full compliance with CSSF Circular 18/698, including fitness, propriety, and effective oversight of delegated functions Maintain substance in Luxembourg including demonstrable oversight, governance and decision-making presence Operational and strategic leadership of the Portfolio Management teams Lead and manage the 2 teams in charge of AIFs and UCITs portfolio management activities Ensure that they are properly staffed and policies and procedures are followed Strengthen/optimise current operating models and increase scalability thought technology, AI and data Ensure alignment of teams objectives with company and group strategic goals, contributing to the overall business strategy of the Company and its parent group Act in accordance with the firm’s leadership principles and governance standards, ensuring consistency in decision-making, accountability, and ethical conduct Drive clear objective setting, performance management, and feedback processes within the team Contribute to cross-functional collaboration and leadership within the broader organization Portfolio Management Oversight Leadership Lead the Portfolio Management Oversight (PMO) function, ensuring robust control over delegated portfolio management and investment advisory activities Own the end-to-end oversight framework, including: Initial and ongoing due diligence of portfolio managers Performance monitoring and challenge processes Investment compliance monitoring Ensure the ManCo retains effective control and decision-making capability over delegates and can intervene where required Oversee a broad range of strategies and asset classes Governance & Stakeholder Management Contribute to and/or chair Investment Committees and governance forums Provide clear, concise reporting to Boards and Management Committees on portfolio oversight, risks, and performance Ensure strong challenge, escalation and documentation culture across investment oversight Transformation & Platform Development Drive continuous improvement of the ManCo portfolio oversight model, including: Scaling across asset classes and jurisdictions Enhancing data, systems and reporting capabilities Strengthening operating model efficiency and standardisation Support strategic growth initiatives, including onboarding new clients, products and complex strategies Contribute to Apex’s broader platform transformation and integration agenda Leadership & Culture Build and lead a high-performing Portfolio Management (AIFs and UCITs) and Portfolio Management Oversight team Ensure appropriate skills, expertise and capacity in Luxembourg, aligned with regulatory expectations Promote a culture of accountability, independence, and investor protection Candidate Profile Experience & Expertise Significant experience in: Portfolio management oversight, investment management, or ManCo environment Luxembourg regulatory framework Demonstrated readiness to act as Conducting Officer (approved or approvable by CSSF) Strong understanding of delegation models and oversight obligations Leadership & Transformation Capability Ability to: Lead transformation initiatives within regulated environments Build and scale operating models in growth platforms Manage complex stakeholder ecosystem (clients, regulators, delegates) Core Competencies Strong leadership and decision-making capabilities Excellent understanding of financial markets, asset classes, and investment strategies Analytical mindset with the ability to challenge and assess complex investment structures High degree of regulatory judgement and governance focus Strategic mindset balanced with execution discipline Ability to constructively challenge portfolio managers and senior stakeholders Good communication and stakeholder management skills (Board level exposure) Fluency in English; additional languages (e.g., German or French) are advantageous Why Join Apex / FundRock Be part of a leading global provider of ManCo and AIFM services Play a key role in shaping a next-generation ManCo platform Work across diverse asset classes and international clients Influence strategy, governance, and regulatory positioning at a senior level Please note that a background check will be conducted as part of the hiring process once a job offer has been made.
