Job Title: Construction Project Manager Job Description The Construction Project Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing capital projects from execution through construction. This role ensures quality control and project completion in alignment with construction schedules, engineering specifications, and contract documentation, including change management. The manager also monitors contractor activities to ensure compliance with all related safety regulations and practices, managing day-to-day project execution at various sites to ensure projects are running smoothly within scope, schedule, and budget. Responsibilities Collaborate with the project team, including engineering, project managers, and other stakeholders, during the project development stage to understand scope, equipment/material requirements, inventories, schedules, contracts, etc. Utilize contractor's baseline schedule to evaluate progress against the plan and ensure contractor maintains schedule through evaluating labor force, equipment, and efficiencies. Assist project manager in coordinating all onsite work, including scheduling third-party consultants for testing and verification as required. Track and maintain material inventory and coordinate material delivery to the site as needed. Conduct onsite safety orientations and routine site walks. Review schedule updates for accuracy and ensure environmental, regulatory, and permitting requirements in the contract are met. Track safety incident reporting to ensure compliance with contract requirements. Lead weekly construction meetings and daily meetings with contractors and internal personnel, as required by project scope. Monitor and verify critical points throughout construction to ensure adherence to construction, operational, and safety standards. Review Change Orders and billing/invoice requests to make final recommendations to the Project Manager. Coordinate responses to RFIs with the Project Manager and Engineering. Maintain as-built markups on-site and facilitate the flow of documentation and information between project manager and contractors/construction crews. Investigate and evaluate damage or claims related to construction. Perform final inspection of all assigned projects to ensure contractual and operational compliance. Submit daily inspection and project update reports. Initiate methods to reduce or eliminate potential claims or damage resulting from construction. Review contractor workplans to identify potential project safety, quality, and schedule risks. Review legal documents such as contracts, deeds, easements, leases, and permits. Conduct safety inspections regularly. For transmission projects, coordinate with system operators for scheduling and energization of the completed project with transmission system, verify proper operation of facility and system, review and coordinate outage requests with project manager, and perform switching operations. For generation projects, coordinate with plant operations to secure necessary Lock Out Tag Out for all work occurring. Attend planning or outage meetings with the plant, as required by project scope. Lead start-up and commissioning as necessary. Perform other duties as assigned. Essential Skills 5+ years of stand-alone project management experience in electrical utility construction projects (substation, transmission, distribution, power generation, BESS). Bachelor's degree in construction management or applicable field, or equivalent education and experience. Knowledge and/or experience with OSHA, ACI, ASTM, NEC, NESC, and applicable construction specifications and standards. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Project, Outlook, Excel, Word). Experience managing RFIs, change orders, claims, contractor performance, and construction contracts. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and contract documents. Proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore, P6, etc.) and field documentation processes. Strong safety mindset with the ability to enforce and promote safe work practices. Excellent organization, communication, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications PMP certification is a plus. Experience in scope development, project coordination, client relationship management, project life cycle management, schedule management, budgeting, and budget management. Work Environment The role is based at headquarters in Winchester, KY, with deployment to project sites as needed. The standard work hours are 8 AM to 5 PM, with potential for overtime at the project manager's discretion based on project phase and deadlines. Projects are diverse, ranging from greenfield and brownfield to power generation, transmission, and substation.
