The Department of Gastroenterology in East Kent Hospitals is looking for an enthusiastic new colleague to join us on our journey into 21st century gastroenterology and increasing subspecialisation.
We currently provide a 7-day Consultant-led gastroenterology inpatient service on two acute hospital sites at Margate and Ashford, a site based 24/7 GI Bleed rota for the two main acute sites as well as specialist Nutrition, IBD, Hepatology, HPB, UGI Cancer, complex polypectomy services, Bowel Cancer Screening and capsule endoscopy. Endoscopy Services are provided from the three main hospital sites in Canterbury, Margate and Ashford.
We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Gastroenterologist with a special interest in Hepatology to join the William Harvey Hospital team at Ashford.
The candidate should have an interest and ideally expertise in managing acute and chronic liver disease of all aetiologies with an ability to lead and develop the local hepatology team in the future, and to maintain and develop out current links with Kings College Hospital.
The current Trustwide hepatology team is led by 2 consultant gastroenterologists and includes two Hepatology Nurses (one at WHH and one at QEQM), fibroscan technician etc tbc. We have a weekly liver triage MDM with a Kings College Hospital Transplant Hepatologist to discuss complex inpatients and to facilitate rapid escalation of patients who may require liver transplantation.
Outpatient templates for the appointee will be balanced towards hepatology patients for the appointee. Competency for colonoscopy will not be required.
A successful candidate with previous experience and training may also have the opportunity to contribute to Trust wide ERCP provision.
