Job Description Summary Job Summary/Purpose: • Cat Scan Technologists review patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment, and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation. • When ordered, prepares, and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice. Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate. • Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary. • Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure. Enters, transmits, and reports scan results. • Will be required to provide coverage for other outreach sites located in Mt. Pleasant, North Charleston, and West Ashley. Education and Work Experience • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program. • Registered or Registry eligible in an advanced modality. Licensures, Registrations, Certifications • Current registration in Radiology from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist. • Current licensure from the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association. • Registered in Advanced Imaging Modality or registry eligible. Will become registered within one year of eligibility. • BLS certification. Exams are routed to PACS for interpretation as soon as complete. Accurately- per exam protocol using appropriate anatomical markers and positioning aids. Images are free of artifact and motion. Safely- All patients are screened for patient and technologist identification, patient history, and safety protocols. Medial history reviewed for exam indications and contraindications. Review schedule / patient record 3-5 days prior to scheduled appointment. Evaluate for exam / facility appropriateness and contraindications for exam. Work with Radiologists, referring physicians, and clinics to address any issues prior to patient arriving for exam. ASSURE THE RADIOLOGY SUITE AND ADJACENT CLINICAL AND COMMON AREAS ARE PREPARED TO RECEIVE PATIENTS/VISITORS. Equipment- assure all needed equipment is available and in working order, perform quality control per ACR and manufacturer – report ASAP any equipment errors or downtime directly to service vendor and manager, as well as clinical staff. Suite/Clinical and common areas- assure all needed medical supplies are ordered and stowed, assure exam room and patient areas are clean and equipment is cleaned per manufacturer, OSHA, DHEC and MUSC infection control guidelines. Report any environment issues timely to manager. SUPPORT CULTURE OF SAFETY System Improvement- consistently looks for ways to improve safety by analyzing workflows, work area and identifying barriers. Ask Why? - See something say something- use PSI reporting system. Actively participate in group meetings by offering your comments and suggestions. Address problems of patient care as they arise and make decisions to appropriately resolve the problem, involve appropriate supervisor or other member of patient's care team as necessary. Additional Duties and Responsibilities: Ability to evaluate and appropriately respond to verbal and non-verbal communication from patients’ diverse stages of development. Completes procedures following approved procedure protocols with sufficient speed to promote departmental efficiency. Completes required documentation for each procedure, both computer and handwritten. Demonstrates technical competence in the operation of imaging equipment, and the use of procedure related supplies. Complete knowledge of related physics, anatomy, imaging techniques and medical terminology. Introduces self to patients, explains the procedure, assists the patient at the end of the procedure and explains the next steps. Maintain a professional demeanor in attitude, appearance, and communication. Obtains pertinent history, verifies orders, and communicates effectively with co-workers and other clinic staff to provide excellent patient care. Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces. Additional Job Description Education: Graduation from an accredited school of radiologic technology. Work Experience: 0-2 years of modality specific experience. Registration/Certifications: Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). ARRT CT Registration required within 1 year in position. Licensure from the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association is required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
