THE DIFFERENCE YOU MAKE The Economic Crime Threat Intelligence & Insight Function in Economic Crime Risk is looking for a Deputy Nominated Officer and Investigations Senior Manager based out of Milton Keynes or Glasgow . This role will be accountable for leading and coordinating a portfolio of economic crime investigations activity, ensuring complex, sensitive and high-risk cases are progressed effectively, consistently and in line with applicable legal, regulatory and policy requirements. The role holder supports the delivery of the Economic Crime Investigations and Nominated officer strategy by providing specialist oversight, operational direction and subject matter expertise across investigations, intelligence-led casework, suspicious activity escalation and financial crime exits. The role holder will work closely with Economic Crime Risk, Financial Crime Operations, business stakeholders and external agencies where appropriate, helping to ensure that money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, sanctions, bribery, corruption, tax evasion and wider economic crime risks are identified, investigated, escalated and managed appropriately. Provides day-to-day leadership across a defined investigations portfolio, Nominated Officer portfolio, translating strategic priorities into clear operational plans, allocating resources effectively, monitoring delivery, supporting quality and consistency of outcomes, and escalating material risks, issues and decisions through appropriate governance channels. To succeed in this role, you will be responsible for: Economic Crime Risk Management and Oversight: Is responsible for supporting the execution of the Function’s Strategy and priorities. This will require working collaboratively across teams and disciplines, as required. External Agency Reporting and Nominated Officer Support: oversees suspicious activity investigation and escalation processes, including appropriate consideration of POCA, TACT, SARs, DAML and DATF requirements, ensuring matters are reviewed and progressed in line with internal procedures and statutory obligations. Complex and Sensitive Investigations: oversees the progression of high-risk, sensitive and complex economic crime investigations, ensuring proportionate decision-making, timely escalation, clear rationale and appropriate documentation. Sanction Breach cases: Leads the investigation of suspected and confirmed Sanctions breach case escalations and produce detailed reports with clear findings supported by evidence. Deputy Nominated Officer Responsibilities: acts under delegated authority from the RFB MLRO and Nominated Officer where required, supporting oversight of AML systems and controls, receiving and overseeing suspicious activity escalations, considering and challenging POCA and TACT disclosures and consent requests, and supporting external reporting, account withholding and financial crime exit decisions in line with statutory obligations and internal governance. Investigation and Intelligence Sharing: supports the development and use of internal and external intelligence, emerging typologies and threat insight to inform case prioritisation, control enhancements and the organisation’s response to evolving financial crime risks. Financial Crime Exits: provides oversight and SME input into financial crime exits and OBE activity, supporting decisions to limit, block or exit customer holdings or relationships through appropriate governance, approvals and risk-based rationale. Horizon Scanning and Risk Insight: contributes to horizon scanning, thematic analysis, risk appetite discussions and KRI reporting, ensuring investigation outcomes and intelligence insights inform wider economic crime risk management activity. Define Risk Appetite Boundaries: contributes to defining Risk Appetite Boundaries, ensuring that emerging threats, intelligence insights, and investigative outcomes inform the organisation’s tolerance and approach to economic crime risk. Professional Experience: Good understanding of the financial services industry, the political and economic environment and Santander strategy and initiatives, with specific knowledge of economic crime intelligence, financial crime typologies, law enforcement engagement and external threat trends. (Required) Sound knowledge and understanding of regulatory framework of UK financial services, industry trends and best practice (Required) Broad experience in Intelligence and Investigations as a senior manager across different aspects of financial services / financial markets, and within a global organisation. (Required) Substantial experience of working in AML/TF in Advisory, Intelligence and Operational roles across financial services and/or Law Enforcement, within the MLR, POCA & TACT Compliance and SARs-reporting contexts. (Required) Makes appropriate recommendations on the business areas, systems and procedures being reviewed. These recommendations address the root causes and add value to the business. (Required) Sound judgement in assessing suspicious activity, disclosure requests, account withholding considerations and financial crime exit recommendations. (Required) Expertise in leading the investigation of suspected and confirmed Sanctions breach investigations. (Required) Education: Relevant academic/regulatory qualification (Preferred) University degree or equivalent or suitable practical work experience (Required) Post graduate qualification/experience (Preferred) Extensive experience in Line 2 Economic Crime Risk Function (Required) Languages: English (Required) Hard Skills: Ability to see the bigger picture and to apply commerciality and judgement from a regulatory perspective to internal and market information. Salary Range: £84,614.00 - £126,922.00 per annum (depending on experience) This salary range represents the expected remuneration for the role. Annual salary is based on a standard 35-hour working week. Actual salary offered will depend on skills, experience, qualifications and location.
