Build the Finance Function Behind the Future of Robotics & Physical AI
This is not a traditional Director of Finance role.
We’re looking for a founding finance leader to build the entire finance function from the ground up at a rapidly scaling, frontier AI and robotics company backed by $1.8B+ in funding from leading investors including SoftBank, Sequoia, NVIDIA, Bezos Expeditions, and Samsung.
The company is developing a platform-agnostic “brain” for physical AI and robotics, with customers including major technology and industry leaders such as Amazon and NVIDIA.
You'll work directly with the founders and have the autonomy to build the financial infrastructure, strategy, and team that will support the company's next phase of explosive growth.
🔥 What You'll Own
- Build the company's financial operating model from the ground up
- Develop budgets, cost centers, financial projections, burn/runway analysis, and long-range forecasts
- Establish scalable FP&A, accounting oversight, and financial reporting processes
- Serve as the company's primary finance thought leader and strategic advisor
- Partner directly with founders on capital allocation and high-stakes financial decisions
- Help educate non-finance leaders on financial strategy and business fundamentals
- Evaluate the existing finance/accounting organization and determine the right team structure for the future
- Own board reporting, investor materials, and fundraising support
- Provide financial visibility across a highly capital-intensive business
- Help build the systems, processes, and team needed to scale toward the company's next stage
🎯 What We're Looking For
- 10–15+ years of experience in strategic finance, FP&A, corporate finance, or a related discipline
- Significant experience in high-growth, venture-backed startups
- Ideally, you've been a first or second finance hire or have built a finance function from the ground up
- Experience scaling a finance organization through Series B–D or similar growth stages
- Background in capital-intensive technology, AI, robotics, or other frontier technology
- Strong financial modeling, forecasting, and strategic planning capabilities
- Experience working directly with founders and executive leadership
- Comfortable challenging assumptions, pushing back when necessary, and influencing high-level decisions
- Calm, confident, highly analytical communicator who can operate effectively in high-pressure environments
- Ability to translate complex financial information into clear business decisions

💰 Compensation & Details
Base Salary: $250K–$350K, with potential to reach $375K+ depending on experience
Equity: Competitive / meaningful ownership
Location: San Mateo, CA
Work Model: 5 days in-office
Visa: Open to visa sponsorship and transfers, with preference for candidates already established in the Bay Area
