POSITION SUMMARY This position is responsible ensuring the implementation of Transmission Planning activities in accordance with FERC, NERC and regional planning requirements. The successful candidate for this role is expected to develop the skills to perform work in areas specific to area planning, FERC/NERC compliance (i.e., Order 881, Order 1000, Order 1920, TPL-001), coordination with Florida utility peers through the regional planning organization, and supporting regulatory and rate case activities. Employees at this level solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with general to limited supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer at this level effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is progressively complex and varied. RESPONSIBILITIES Develop the skills needed to perform steady state analysis of the Duke Energy Florida transmission system to verify reliability requirements are met. Support compliance with all Transmission Planning-applicable NERC Reliability Standards and support the maintenance of documentation for compliance activities. Support the development of filings for FERC Orders as well as provide comments on NOPRs. Assist with FRCC regulatory and compliance efforts, interfacing with FRCC staff and FRCC members. Ability to support compliance with all Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) Transmission Planning requirements and apply relevant state laws and regulations. Participate on inter-utility system working groups Provide technical support to other areas of Transmission and the company on transmission planning related issues Support the company's goals and represent the company in a positive professional manner at regional reliability team meetings Additional Preferred Qualifications Passing grade on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam Programming experience in areas such as Python, batch files, Visual Basic Competence in engineering theories and principles Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills Experience in the electric utility industry Department specific experience applicable to Transmission Planning, NERC Compliance, FERC Compliance, or the OATT. Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Basic Qualifications Note: This posting is for one open position. Dependent on relative experience, the level to which a candidate is aligned is outlined below. Engineer II Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree. Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience. Engineer III Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree. Minimum of 4 years engineering experience Working Conditions Office Environment Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, employees should live within 50 miles, one way, of their designated Duke Energy facility. Some travel (<10%) outside geographical area. Onboarding requires employee to be onsite, then schedule is hybrid, typically 3 days in the office and the remainder from home each week. Specific Requirements Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree. Support during emergency storm restoration, which could require extended hours working.
