Job Summary The External Relations Manager leads employer engagement and external relations efforts for Career Services. This position develops partnerships that create internships, employment opportunities, graduate education pathways, experiential learning opportunities, and professional connections for BYU–Hawaii students. Primary Responsibilities Opportunity Development and Career Pathways Lead the development and promotion of internship, employment, graduate education, mentoring, and experiential learning opportunities. Coordinate employer recruiting initiatives, hiring programs, information sessions, job postings. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align partnership development efforts with student needs, and institutional priorities. Employer Engagement and Partnership Development Lead employer outreach efforts that generate internships, employment opportunities, graduate education pathways, experiential learning opportunities, and long-term partnerships. Build and maintain recruiting pipelines in key industries, regions, and countries that align with the university’s mission and student population. Communicate employer expectations, industry trends, hiring needs, and workforce opportunities to Career Services staff and university stakeholders. Serve as a representative of Career Services in meetings, presentations, conferences, recruiting activities, and partnership discussions with external organizations. Lead career conferences focused on Church Areas of influence and industry that connect students with employers, graduate schools, alumni, Church leaders, and other strategic partners. Serve as the primary relationship manager for conference participants to support long-term partnerships and recruiting initiatives. Coordinate event logistics, participant travel, lodging, transportation, schedules, communications, and overall guest experience in partnership with University Events. Develop recruiting, networking, mentoring, internship, graduate school, and employment opportunities through conference participation. Evaluate conference effectiveness and recommend improvements based on stakeholder feedback, recruiting results, and student impact. Partner with university departments, supporting units, and external stakeholders to develop communication strategies, outreach campaigns, partnership updates, and follow-up systems. Student Employee Leadership Recruit, hire, train, and mentor up to fifteen student employees supporting internship coordination, employer outreach, guest relations, event operations, and data management. Establish performance expectations, project goals, service standards, and accountability measures for student employees. Collaborate with the Career Services peer counseling team to ensure students are professionally prepared to engage with employers, graduate schools, executives, and other conference participants. Develop students to be capable leaders. Data Management Maintain records of employers, contacts, opportunities, partnerships, event participation, communications, and engagement activities. Monitor and analyze employer engagement, partnership growth, recruiting activity, conference participation, and student opportunity outcomes. Prepare reports, recommendations, and presentations that support departmental planning, decision-making, and stakeholder communication. Participate in strategic planning, process improvement, assessment initiatives, and departmental decision-making. Shared Department Leadership Support department-wide planning, budgeting, assessment, reporting, operational improvement, and event execution efforts. Represent Career Services and contribute to a coordinated model that integrates employer engagement with student preparation and career development. Minimum Qualification & Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree in business administration, higher education, human resources, public administration, communications, or a related field preferred. 5-7 years of directly related experience. Experience in employer relations, partnership development, recruiting, workforce development, higher education, or a related field. Strong leadership, relationship-building, communication, project management, and organizational skills. Experience supervising employees, student employees, volunteers, interns, peer leaders, or project teams. Ability to develop student leaders and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously. Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with employers, graduate schools, alumni, Church organizations, government agencies, and university partners. Ability to analyze data, assess outcomes, and implement continuous improvement strategies. Commitment to the mission and values of Brigham Young University–Hawaii. The salary offered could be above or below range based on education and experience as it relates to the job description. As an educational institution affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, BYU–Hawaii prefers to hire qualified members of the Church in good standing, as authorized under 41 C.F.R. § 60-1.5 (a)(6). To be eligible for employment, applicants who are members of the Church must hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend and receive a clearance from the Church’s Ecclesiastical Clearance Office. Job applicants must be able to meet these conditions to advance through the hiring process successfully. An expired temple recommend will prevent consideration for hire.
