Project Overview: The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is driving unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed the EPC contract for the Cheyenne Power Hub Project, one of the largest gas-fired power generation facilities in the United States. The candidate will act as the Field Welding Engineer for the CCGT Area on the Cheyenne Power Hub Project in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Job Summary: The Field Welding Engineer implements and maintains the Bechtel Field Welding program and provides specialized welding engineering support across the CCGT Area. You will manage and monitor the welding test lab, the rod room, the pre- and post-weld heat treatment program, and welder qualifications, and will schedule and coordinate non-destructive examination with construction and subcontractors. Your technical advice will ensure defects and quality behaviors are rectified prior to final inspection and that welding meets all code, client, engineering, and Bechtel requirements. #LI-BH1 Major Responsibilities: Welding Program Implements and maintains the Bechtel Field Welding program for all welding operations, and may be assigned as Lead Field Welding Engineer on large projects. Provides specialized welding engineering support for construction to ensure the work meets all code, client and engineering specifications, and Bechtel procedures and standards. Works with the team to review and keep weld documents up to date and ensures the credibility and accountability of the Welding Program. Coordinates work activities with the Project Field Engineer and the Lead Field Welding Engineer in implementing the site welding program. Welder Qualification and Materials Control Manages and monitors the welding test lab to ensure high quality welders are being tested and hired. Manages, issues, and maintains welder qualifications and welder stamps. Assists in the management of the rod room and rod room attendant to ensure all weld filler materials are controlled to meet Bechtel, code, and client requirements. Heat Treatment and NDE Assists in the management of the pre- and post-weld heat treatment program, and may be responsible for implementing and leading the subcontractor and direct hire Pre/PWHT program. Schedules and coordinates NDE with construction and subcontractors for the most efficient NDE schedule at the least cost and least impact to construction. Safety / Quality Ensures the zero accident philosophy and requirements are adhered to in the operational area and that welding equipment and consumables are in safe condition and safely operated. Performs field inspections of welding work and advises on rectification of quality behaviors and defects prior to final inspection. Verifies materials, workmanship, and specification and code compliance, and prepares and closes non-conformance reports for welding scopes. Education and Experience Requirements: Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience. Required Knowledge and Skills: Maintain, promote, and cultivate a safe work ethic and work environment within the craft, and be able to walk the jobsite on uneven surfaces, climb ladders and scaffolding, and use standard issued PPE. NDE certifications including VT, PT and MT. Must be certifiable by written examination to Bechtel's nondestructive examination requirements as NDE Level II Visual Examination. Knowledge of AWS, API, NFPA, AWWA, ASTM and ASNT codes, specifications, and standards, and of ASME Section I and B31.1 as applied to power plant welding. Advanced knowledge and/or certifications in SMAW, GTAW, GMAW and FCAW. Intermediate understanding of preheat and post weld heat treatment of equipment and consumables. Knowledge of Bechtel's SWPP 4MP-T81-03701 Welding Program, 03708 Pre/Post Weld Heat Treatment, and 03705 Welding & NDE Documentation. Strong technical background across all phases of welding application and non-destructive examination relating to construction activities, with demonstrated ability to problem-solve under pressure. Advanced knowledge of piping design drawings and specifications, and of TeamWorks/WITS. Preferred Knowledge and Skills: Heavy industrial direct hire construction experience commensurate with the work to be undertaken. Previous Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) project experience.
