Senior Full-Stack Platform Engineer
Synaps is building a new standard for architectural design with AI. At the center of the product is a browser-based CAD platform combining precise drafting, real-time collaboration, AI-assisted workflows, and the production systems that make all of this work reliably.
We’re looking for a Senior Full-Stack Platform Engineer who can own a broad part of the Synaps production application outside the CAD editor core. You should be equally comfortable shipping customer-facing full-stack features and designing the backend, data, realtime, storage, authentication, billing, and service infrastructure behind them.
This is not a pure backend or infrastructure role. We need someone who can take a product requirement, design the systems behind it, ship it to users, and remain responsible for how it behaves in production.
What you’ll work on
You’ll own a broad production surface across the Synaps application and the cloud services that support it.
- Design and operate backend APIs, application services, and data models
- Own authentication, authorization, permissions, tenancy, billing, and storage across product features
- Build and operate realtime services supporting collaborative product experiences
- Ship full-stack product features outside the CAD editor core, including their frontend, APIs, data, permissions, reliability, and observability
- Design safe contracts between the browser application, backend services, realtime systems, and editor
- Own backend trust boundaries used by AI, including authentication, team context, service contracts, storage, and usage or credit settlement
- Design background and event-driven workflows with proper handling of retries, idempotency, failures, and recovery
- Build systems with security, observability, cost, migrations, and rollback in mind from the beginning
- Improve reliability and operability across production services as Synaps scales
- Work closely with Editor Platform on editor and realtime-client contracts
- Collaborate with AI Engineering on the private AI runtime and service boundaries
- Work directly with Product Design and product stakeholders to turn product requirements into maintainable systems
- Partner with the CTO on high-risk architecture, migrations, and rollout decisions
You won’t just implement tickets or isolated services. You’ll own meaningful parts of the product from architecture through deployment and production operation.
Our stack
Our current environment includes:
- TypeScript
- React
- Cloudflare Workers
- Durable Objects
- WebSockets
- Hono
- tRPC
- Drizzle
- Postgres
- R2 and object storage
- Authentication and permission systems
- Realtime and collaborative infrastructure
- AI service integrations
- Structured logging, tracing, and observability
The exact tools matter less than the fundamentals. Strong candidates coming from AWS, GCP, Azure, Go, Java, Kotlin, or other production stacks are equally interesting if they have owned comparable systems.
What you bring
- Strong experience owning meaningful production systems end to end
- Strong full-stack or backend engineering experience in TypeScript or a comparable language
- Experience designing and operating APIs and relational data models
- Experience with authentication, authorization, permissions, and multi-user application systems
- Experience with background jobs, event-driven systems, or distributed workflows
- Experience with object storage and production data lifecycle concerns
- Experience operating stateful or realtime systems
- Strong understanding of retries, idempotency, durability, concurrency, failure handling, and recovery
- Ability to design maintainable service and data contracts from product requirements
- Strong understanding of security, observability, migrations, operational cost, and rollback strategies
- Ability to reason about boundaries between frontend, backend, infrastructure, and product behavior
- Strong communication across engineering, product, and design
- High ownership and comfort working without a predefined implementation playbook
Nice to have
- Experience with Cloudflare Workers, Durable Objects, R2, Hono, tRPC, or Drizzle
- Experience with WebSockets, multiplayer products, collaborative applications, or CRDT-backed systems
- Experience building realtime or synchronization infrastructure
- Experience with AI gateways, agent runtimes, RAG, model providers, or usage metering
- Experience with billing and subscription infrastructure
- Experience building permissions and team-based SaaS products
- Experience in a small product company where engineers both ship and operate their systems
- Experience with complex creative tools, editors, CAD, BIM, or other stateful applications
How we work
We’re a startup. You get real ownership, move fast, and work directly on production systems that determine whether Synaps remains reliable as the product grows.
You won’t be responsible only for writing backend endpoints or keeping infrastructure alive. We expect you to understand the product requirement, make the important technical decisions, build the system across the necessary boundaries, and follow it through production.
We make ownership explicit.
The Full-stack Platform Engineer owns the application and cloud systems around the editor, while specialist teams own areas such as CAD geometry, editor internals, AI behavior, and product design. Good collaboration means building clean contracts between those areas rather than turning everything into a generic platform abstraction.
We’re building a small team of sharp, creative builders who want to be early at a generational company. We care deeply about craft, ship world-class products, and expect a high bar. If that resonates with you, this is the place.
