Statewide Geotechnical (Aust) Pty Ltd is an established Melbourne-based company providing geotechnical consultancy, drilling and investigation services for projects throughout Victoria and interstate. We also operate an extensive NATA-accredited geotechnical testing laboratory.

We currently have a full-time position available for an experienced Geotechnical Driller, with an immediate start available.

Following an extensive local recruitment search, we are broadening our search to include suitably qualified overseas candidates. Employer sponsorship may be considered for the right candidate, subject to relevant experience and Australian visa eligibility.

About the role

This field-based position involves working at various locations throughout Victoria and interstate, with occasional overnight stays away from home.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Liaising effectively with Engineering Supervisors and field personnel
• Operating drilling rigs and ancillary equipment safely and efficiently
• Conducting auger, washbore and wireline diamond drilling
• Performing in-situ testing, including SPT, Vane Shear and DCP testing
• Collecting U-tube, bulk and other geotechnical samples
• Completing routine equipment inspections and maintenance
• Identifying and resolving mechanical issues
• Working effectively within a small field team
• Travelling to metropolitan, regional and interstate project locations

Essential requirements

Applicants should have:

• Demonstrated experience as a Geotechnical Driller
• Experience with geotechnical drilling, testing and sampling
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
• A strong commitment to workplace health and safety
• Suitable physical fitness for field-based work
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• A reliable, motivated and practical “can-do” attitude
• Professional references
• Willingness to travel and occasionally work away from home

Australian applicants should hold an appropriate truck licence. Overseas applicants should hold an equivalent heavy-vehicle licence and be willing and eligible to obtain the required Australian licence.

Candidates must be based in metropolitan Melbourne or be willing to relocate to Melbourne if successful.

Desirable experience

Preference may be given to applicants with:

• Operational experience with Geoprobe, Comacchio or Hanjin drilling rigs
• A Class 1 or Class 2 Victorian Water Bore Licence
• An equivalent overseas water-well drilling qualification or licence
• Experience working on remote or interstate projects
• Experience maintaining and troubleshooting drilling equipment
