About One Subsurface Programme One Subsurface is our early careers programme designed to create a pipeline of subsurface professionals. Early careers will follow a structured development offer to accelerate the acquisition of foundational technical skills, experience and knowledge, and application in the business world. The programme supports transition from university to discipline professional and provides a framework of ‘non-technical’ skills to support building personal effectiveness skills. Early careers will build their experience through challenging development assignments, grow a toolkit of transferable skills for the future, and have a dedicated network of support to help them succeed. This is a three-year program with two 18-month rotations, including field experience . About the role Global Subsurface Solutions provides technical support to bp’s regional businesses in various areas including reservoir fluid characterization. As specialist reservoir engineers, Complex Fluids practitioners provide technical expertise globally in understanding the fluid properties, the associated risks, and mitigation strategies for our resilient hydrocarbon business and low carbon energy transition. They play a critical role in making sure fluids are properly described to make the business safer and our predictions more reliable. Complex fluids support covers the entire project cycle by planning the fluid sampling and analysis for renewal to modeling the fluid phase behavior for projects and operations. Over the past few years, complex fluids specialists are also being called on more to advise on the fluid implications for CCS and Hydrogen projects. In this role you will gain: Vital skills in reservoir fluid characterization are essential to both resilient hydrocarbon and low carbon energy transition. Insights on how reservoir fluids are modelled through Subsurface and Surface in various software. Experience of working in a highly experienced Reservoir Engineering team within the Reservoir Performance Prediction and Management (RPPM) Unit. Global exposure to many O&G and CCUS projects. Extended network across P&O, G&LC, I&E, and Regions. Deeper understanding of BP businesses from different perspectives. Exposure to cutting edge research in low carbon transition, like Hydrogen storage. Working relations with various disciplines such as geoscience, engineering, microbiology, production chemistry, etc. In this role you will: Plan the fluid sampling and surveillance programs. Oversee the fluid analysis in the third-party laboratories and conduct quality check and estimate in-situ reservoir fluid properties from PVT data. Develop equation of state models and table of properties for reservoir dynamic performance prediction, flow assurance, process simulation, and multiphase flow meter configuration. Contribute to the understanding of reservoir connectivity/compartmentalization through PVT data analysis. Simulate reservoir souring to support projects and operations (using SourSimRL software). Participate in Integrated Fluids Reviews (IFR) for Major Projects (Hydrocarbons, CCS and potentially Hydrogen). Inform the fluid risk management by providing fluid analysis results. Support development of complex fluids workflow and practices including fluids database, software applications, and internal tools. All the above are delivered in collaboration with various stakeholders from Subsurface, Production, Wells, Projects, Regional teams, and external vendors. Minimum Requirements Seeking a MS or PhD, majoring in petroleum engineering, chemical engineering or similar. Must have cumulative and major GPA of 3.2 or higher On a case-by-case basis, bp may support US Immigration sponsorship for full-time or long- term employment. Must be in final year, graduating from December 2026 through May 2027 or graduated in the last 3 years. Must be available to start on agreed upon global programme start dates (January 19, 2027 or June 21, 2027).
