The Role:
We are looking for a highly experienced Head of Space Systems (Satcom & AIT) to join our core engineering group (the Orbit Team). You will own both the digital architecture of our constellation and the physical realization of our spacecraft.
Because we are at the foundational stage, this role spans a broad and hands-on list of responsibilities across the entire mission lifecycle. As a founding team member, you will be "wearing multiple hats” from running early orbital simulations to physically assembling hardware. However, as Panura grows and scales, you will transition into building, structuring, and leading a dedicated Space Systems and AIT team to take on these specialized functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design: Architect and simulate our LEO satellite constellation to optimize 5G/6G D2D coverage, mission lifetime, and power budgets.
- Build: Lead the physical realization and hands-on mechanical and electrical assembly of our early-stage satellites and prototypes.
- AIT (Assembly, Integration, and Testing): Oversee the integration of standard spacecraft subsystems with our custom regenerative RF payloads, and manage rigorous environmental testing campaigns (Thermal Vacuum, Vibration, EMI/EMC).
- Mentorship & Collaboration: Guide and support team members including space systems engineers, antenna engineers, and RF engineers, ensuring a smooth transition from conceptual design to flight-ready hardware.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 7+ years of proven industry experience in space systems engineering, with a strong focus on the full lifecycle of satellite development.
- Experience in satellite Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT/AIV), CubeSats, or LEO platforms.
- Advanced proficiency in orbital mechanics and constellation design.
- Demonstrated ability to own a technical project from conceptual design through to physical assembly and testing.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience taking a satellite system through the complete lifecycle, including launch and early orbit phase.
- Familiarity with telecommunications architectures, particularly Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) and 3GPP standards.
- Previous experience in a fast-paced, agile startup environment building engineering processes from scratch.
- Deep knowledge of space-environment constraints (radiation, thermal management, outgassing) and their impact on hardware integration.
