The Role

We are looking for a Healthcare Support Worker to join our Adult Perioperative Department within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Working alongside registered practitioners and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in supporting patients throughout their surgical journey. This is an excellent opportunity to develop specialist skills within a theatre environment while contributing to safe, effective and compassionate care. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
  • Permanent, full-time
  • Shift pattern over 7 days of the week

Key Responsibilities

  • Support patients throughout the pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative stages of care
  • Assist with the safe transfer, positioning and movement of patients within the theatre environment
  • Prepare, set up, clean and maintain a range of theatre equipment and surgical areas
  • Support registered practitioners with surgical preparation, stock management and equipment availability
  • Accurately document patient and theatre information using electronic systems and departmental procedures
  • Participate in maintaining high standards of cleanliness, infection prevention and health and safety compliance
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, person-centred care

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • No formal qualification is required, although a willingness to undertake and complete the in-house training programme is essential
  • Demonstrable caring, compassionate and patient-focused approach to supporting others
  • Effective communication, literacy, numeracy and basic IT skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team in a busy clinical environment
  • Understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality, dignity and patient safety
  • Commitment to following policies, procedures and mandatory training requirements including infection prevention, health and safety and moving and handling
  • Willingness to develop specialist knowledge and skills within the perioperative environment through ongoing learning and development opportunities
