Heavy Civil Estimator

Compensation: $110,000 - $120,000 Base Salary
Relocation Assistance: Available for qualified candidates

About the Opportunity

An established heavy civil construction organization is seeking a Heavy Civil Estimator to take ownership of all estimating and preconstruction efforts for its growing Heavy Civil Division. This is a highly visible role that will function as the division's primary estimating resource, serving both internal business units and an expanding portfolio of external clients.

This position offers the opportunity to lead estimating efforts from concept through bid submission while helping drive the division's continued growth in the heavy civil market. The estimator will be responsible for managing the entire preconstruction process independently and will serve as the go-to resource for all estimating-related matters. There are no direct reports, allowing this individual to remain hands-on and focused on producing accurate, competitive estimates.

What You'll Be Estimating

Typical project values range from $1 million to $25 million and include:

  • Deep Foundations
  • Deep Excavation Projects
  • Complex Underground Utilities
  • Shoring Systems
  • Multi-Level Underground Structures
  • Elevated Structures
  • Storm Drainage Systems
  • Site Grading
  • Demolition Projects

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all estimating and preconstruction activities for the Heavy Civil Division.
  • Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs, cost analyses, and bid proposals.
  • Develop competitive estimates for public and private heavy civil projects.
  • Evaluate plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract documents.
  • Coordinate with operations, project management, and executive leadership during bid development.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
  • Identify project risks and opportunities during the estimating process.
  • Support business development efforts by providing conceptual budgets and preconstruction input.
  • Maintain estimating databases, cost histories, and production rates.
  • Serve as the primary estimating resource for both internal divisions and external heavy civil opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience estimating heavy civil construction projects.
  • Strong background in earthwork, underground utilities, structural concrete, excavation, grading, drainage, and related civil scopes.
  • AGTEK proficiency is required.
  • Ability to independently perform takeoffs, pricing, bid reviews, and proposal preparation.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, means, sequencing, and production rates.
  • Experience estimating projects ranging from $1M-$25M.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented construction environment.

Why This Role?

This is a unique opportunity to become the driving force behind a growing Heavy Civil Division's preconstruction strategy. The role combines the autonomy of a senior-level estimating position with the ability to directly influence project wins, division growth, and long-term success. For an estimator looking to own the entire estimating process and play a critical role in expanding a heavy civil business, this opportunity offers significant impact and visibility.
