The Role

Hutchison Ports – Port of Felixstowe is the UK’s largest deep‑water container port and a key gateway for global trade. We are currently looking for an Inspection Technician to join our Engineering team, supporting the safe and reliable operation of plant, equipment and infrastructure across the port.


This role focuses on the inspection, testing and condition monitoring of engineering assets, ensuring they remain compliant with statutory requirements and company standards. You will play a key role in maintaining asset safety and performance, carrying out both planned inspections and reactive assessments following incidents.


Working closely with engineers, technicians and operational teams, you will provide technical insight into asset condition, support maintenance planning and contribute to long‑term asset management and continuous improvement.

Role Overview

Key responsibilities include:

· Carry out inspection, testing and condition monitoring of plant, equipment and structures.

· Assess asset condition and determine fitness for continued operation, including structural integrity.

· Respond to incidents and carry out assessments on damaged equipment, including out‑of‑hours support when required.

· Support inspection programmes to ensure compliance with statutory and company standards.

· Ensure all work is carried out in line with engineering standards, safe systems of work and risk assessments.

· Work safely in challenging operational environments, including at height and around live equipment.

· Provide recommendations to improve safety, reliability and inspection processes.

· Liaise with engineering and operational teams to plan inspections, repairs and equipment availability.

· Prepare clear and accurate inspection reports, maintaining detailed records and asset condition data.

· Support continuous improvement by identifying trends and recommending preventative maintenance actions.


What you need:

· A recognised engineering apprenticeship with ONC/HNC (or equivalent).

· Knowledge of engineering standards, safety regulations and inspection techniques (e.g. NDT, weld or rope inspection).

· Experience working with heavy plant, lifting equipment or similar assets.

· Ability to assess structural integrity and make decisions on equipment safety.

· Competence in Microsoft Office and engineering systems.

· Ability to analyse inspection data and apply condition‑based maintenance principles.



Shifts & Pay

• Basic salary: Up to £56,285

• Hours: 40hrs per week – Monday to Friday
