Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Junior Chemistry Technician located at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville , Nebraska. Position closes August 12, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. Position Summary Obtain and analyze samples, record data, and maintain instrumentation and radiochemistry counting equipment associated with the Cooper Nuclear Station (CNS) Chemistry Program. This includes liquid and gaseous plant effluent monitoring (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and Off-Site Dose Assessment Manual (ODAM) radiological effluents), monitoring of water quality in all CNS systems (including corrosion control and bio-monitoring), liquid radioactive waste processing, and the radiological surveys associated with these activities. This position may be assigned to a position within the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) that requires response to the station when an emergency is declared. Assignment to one of these positions and a condition of continued employment will be the ability to arrive at the station to perform ERO responsibilities within 45 minutes of notification of an emergency. This position requires respiratory protection qualifications including the donning of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). This position will require shift rotation work. Education, Training and Experience Junior Chemistry Technician: Bachelor's or associate's degree in science or related field. OR High School diploma/GED and 12 months of experience in a nuclear power plant. OR Successful completion of Navy Engineering Laboratory Technician (ELT) Training Program. AND Must be able to qualify and progress through the specific employee training plan and progression developed for this position. Attain American National Standards Institute (ANSI) N18.1-1971 Chemistry Technician qualification per the requirements specified in Training Program Procedure (TPP) 330. Note: Satisfactory completion of the TPP 330 ANSI N18.1-1971 Chemistry Technician requirements combined with meeting the Education and Training requirements of the Chemistry Technician job profile meets the ANSI N18.1-1971 Section 4.5.2 requirements for a Chemistry Technician. This position supports eventual qualification as an ANSI N18.1-1971 Chemistry Technician as outlined in TPP 330. Attaining and documentation of this qualification is a condition of employment. Licenses and/or Certifications None Essential Duties & Responsibilities Collect and analyze samples from plant systems at CNS for quantitative and quantitative evaluations per industry, state and federal requirements applicable to CNS. Collect and analyze samples from CNS liquid and gaseous effluents for quantitative and quantitative evaluations per industry, state and federal requirements applicable to CNS. Collect and analyze samples in support of Operations Department liquid radioactive waste processing. Maintain laboratory instrumentation and radiochemistry counting equipment by performing functional tests, calibrations, and minor instrument repairs on sample analysis equipment having individual values exceeding $100,000. Perform routine radiological surveys associated with the collection of radioactive samples. Ensure applicable foreign material exclusion, confined space, and industrial safety requirements are met during sample collection and analysis. Document and maintain accurate records to provide a thorough documentation of sample analysis results, equipment maintenance and calibration, and other work activities performed to ensure compliance with applicable industry, state and federal regulations associated with the operation of CNS. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Junior Chemistry Technician - Pay Grade 11 - $38.75-$45.04 Chemistry Technician - Pay Grade 13 - $48.90- $55.01 Senior Chemistry Technician - Pay Grade 14 - $58.58+ Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date.
