Come and join the cryogenics maintenance team within the Technology Department ( TE ), specifically within the Maintenance Methods and Logistics section. We're offering a unique opportunity to work and contribute to the preparation of the next maintenance technical shutdown and integration of new major assets in the maintenance systems. CERN is the world's largest particle physics laboratory and its flagship accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider, depends on having an unrivalled set of cryogenic systems on hand to guarantee reliable operation. Typical cryogenic systems comprise compressors, heat exchangers, valves, instrumentation, vacuum pumps, controls and various test benches for cables, magnets and RF cavities. Process gas purity is essential. The experience you will gain as a member of the cryogenics maintenance team could not be acquired anywhere else, teaching you to work autonomously and address maintenance solution to large and complex systems. Be part of a team overseeing the organisation of Long Shutdown 3 for the cryogenics infrastructure and provide your input. Your responsibilities: Collecting and consolidating maintenance data within the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) - Supporting the preparation and coordination of maintenance activities on-site. Rolling out new maintenance methodologies in collaboration with field technicians. Enhancing work instructions, checklists, and quality assurance procedures used by contractors. Contributing to the implementation of maintenance policies and best practices for new cryogenic assets as part of the HL-LHC (High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider) project. Knowledge of cryogenics fundamentals or oil and gas systems would be an advantage. Ability to read technical drawings. Understanding of maintenance documentation. Demonstrated teamwork, safety awareness, and problem-solving. Skills: Good teamwork and communication skills. Strong safety awareness and willingness to follow established procedures. Motivation to learn and develop new technical competencies. Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language. Eligibility criteria: You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State . By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma . You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before. Applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree are not eligible. Job closing date: 28.08.2026 at 23:59 CEST. Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum. Working hours: 40 hours per week Job flexibility: Fully Onsite Target start date: 01-November-2026 This position involves: Work in Radiation Areas. Interventions in underground installations. A valid driving licence. Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain exposure conditions.
