Job Description Manufacturing Engineer Lead- 2nd shift- Toledo, OH This is a 2nd shift opportunity- Hours 4pm-1am (M-Fri) Sponsorship: GM DOES NOT PROVIDE IMMIGRATION-RELATED SPONSORSHIP FOR THIS ROLE. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Toledo, Ohio plant on a full-time basis. Must be willing to work weekends. This position may offer relocation assistance. The Role: Lead engineer for a group of process engineers responsible for maintaining, improving, and developing manufacturing processes, equipment/tooling alternatives, sequence and flow of operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machines and facilities necessary to produce propulsion systems. Work is performed in a focus factory manufacturing engineering activity where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment. LEVEL EXPECTATIONS: A leader of a team within a larger unit/function with members who possess similar skills sets and have similar objectives. EXPERTISE - Possesses in-depth knowledge and working experience in the area supervised. Has broad knowledge of related areas and demonstrates good business acumen. - Serves as a resource to their team for technical expertise, interaction with other teams and departments, and company policies and processes. - Works independently on driving team results, determines resources to complete team assignments. Receives general management guidance. COMPLEXITY - Creates and oversees operational plans for routine activities, which involve analyzing data and resolving issues within their area of responsibility. Utilizes judgment to develop programs, plans, and strategies that align with annual objectives. - Enhances relationships and networks with senior internal/external partners who are not familiar with subject matter and often require persuasion. Uses data and analysis to demonstrate the value of a project, anticipating, and addressing objections and or concerns. - Encourages open discussion of development needs on their team to enable mutual support and development regardless of starting place for all team members. - Actively listens and responds to the concerns and feelings of colleagues in the immediate environments even when not explicitly stated to engage them towards a goal. Engages with subordinates and peer groups, promoting cooperation and interpreting and explaining information for each audience. - Effectively communicates and presents recommendations and results across several job areas. SCOPE AND IMPACT - Challenges and problems are of a diverse scope with multiple moving parts, where developing a plan and viewing the whole picture is a significant challenge itself. Work is done independently and is reviewed at critical points. - Owns the development and delivery of solutions, driving cross team and group efforts. Leads by example, taking responsibility for their own actions, acknowledging mistakes, and holding themselves accountable for achieving goals. Addresses and evaluates a diverse range of issues using innovative methods and proposing alternative approaches. - Serves as a mentor to more junior level employees, providing coaching and guidance on difficult issues. - Actively builds the team with the optimal mix of talent and experience. Makes intentional develop and hire decisions on people. Recognizes and rewards visible development publicly and privately. - Employee’s impact is significant and spans across their function. What You'll Do: (Responsibilities) Manage day to day activities of a team of process engineers, including setting objectives, managing results, and evaluating/coaching individual performance Lead the development and implementation of improvements to the manufacturing processes Support business processes including Fast Response, Practical Problem Solving, and PPAP Interface with plant site personnel, Central ME personnel, and select Product Engineers on new programs/projects Analyze first time quality data and optimize processes using statistical tools such as Red X and Design of Experiments Develop process documentation for new products/processes including: Process Flow Diagram, Process Control Plan and Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis Oversee and help coordinate PPAP and GP-12 activities Develop Product Quality Standards, Task Instruction Sheets, Safe Job Procedures and Audit Sheets Providing technical direction to less experienced process engineers Support Business Plan Deployment (BPD) initiatives and coordinate engineering activities to achieve Business Plan objectives Providing technical direction to and oversight of individuals in the factory and outside vendor sources Interface with plant site personnel in supporting Continuous Improvement projects at the plant to improve plant metrics in the Safety, People, Quality, Reliability, Cost (SPQRC) arena. Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) Demonstrated ability to lead a group of technical professionals Strong technical knowledge and ability in process engineering disciplines Demonstrates excellent level of analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and difficult projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results Demonstrates initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others Proven ability in project management skills and ability to teach others Effective working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Word Strong knowledge and ability to implement Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) principles Demonstrated basic understanding of mechanical concepts involving machine designs, process requirements involved in the manufacturing process.
