About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established industrial organization, is seeking an experienced Maintenance Engineer – Mechanical to join their team in Medicine Hat, Alberta.


This is a strong opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer who wants to work closely with plant operations, maintenance, technical, and project teams to improve equipment reliability, support mechanical design, and contribute to long-term asset performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical and piping design support for low-risk plant modifications and upgrades.
  • Review and verify the mechanical design integrity of equipment and related systems.
  • Support maintenance and operations teams with emergency changes, equipment issues, and reliability concerns.
  • Utilize appropriate codes, standards, calculations, specifications, and engineering practices.
  • Support material selection decisions to improve reliability, maintainability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Use the Management of Change process to develop, manage, and execute engineering solutions related to equipment failures and reliability issues.
  • Analyze asset performance to identify reliability risks, recurring issues, high maintenance costs, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Apply reliability analysis tools and root cause analysis methods to support equipment and plant performance.
  • Participate in site investigations and contribute to the development of corrective actions.
  • Provide input into equipment and system risk assessments.
  • Support the development and maintenance of reliability programs and vulnerability tracking.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, recommendations, drawings, calculations, charts, and related documentation.
  • Evaluate asset availability and reliability at both the plant and equipment level.
  • Assess remaining life on critical equipment using historical data and reliability analysis.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, operations, technical, and project teams to ensure new and modified equipment supports long-term reliability and maintainability.
  • Contribute to local and broader reliability initiatives, continuous improvement projects, and department planning.


Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering, ideally Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer designation, or eligibility to maintain P.Eng status in Alberta.
  • Minimum of 8 years of related industrial experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a reliability-focused role is preferred.
  • Approximately 6 years of mechanical engineering experience in an industrial, plant, manufacturing, chemical, energy, or heavy industrial environment is preferred.
  • Experience with mechanical and piping systems, equipment reliability, and plant maintenance support.
  • Experience with Management of Change processes, root cause analysis, risk assessments, and reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with applicable mechanical engineering codes, standards, regulations, and industry practices.
  • Experience with incident investigation methodologies is considered an asset.
  • Experience with reliability analysis or modelling tools is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
