The Aurora Central Engineering organization seeks an innovative and motivated Systems Engineering Manager 2 to manage a staff of approximately 50 Systems Engineering, Integration & Test (SEIT) engineers in support of ground technology programs and pursuits. This position will report on-site daily, providing leadership across one or more programs. The position reports directly to the SEIT Department Manager in Aurora, Colorado. Previous experience with satellite payloads, ground systems or aerospace technology is strongly preferred. This position requires a solid understanding of SEIT engineering excellence, tools, and processes in a space systems context to establish solid systems engineering rigor on programs. The Systems Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team of systems engineers, owning the discipline’s methods and tools, and ensuring high-quality technical execution across multiple programs. This role balances people leadership, capability development, and collaboration with program management to deliver integrated, compliant solutions that meet customer and business needs. This manager will be called upon to support proposals; program evaluation; and other strategic initiatives. Strong leadership skills with direct staff are required, including the ability to identify and develop critical skill capabilities, support career development, evaluate and manage performance, identify and recognize achievement, and plan staffing support for programs. This manager would also be responsible for ensuring process compliance and supporting functional department initiatives. The ideal candidate will have experience in SEIT Lead roles, and a strong background in engineering management, as well as the ability to work collaboratively across several Operating Units. Duties and Responsibilities include: Functional oversight of an engineering organization working multiple programs, IRAD initiatives, and new business capture opportunities Contribute to bids and proposals with systems engineering estimates, staffing plans, and technical approach Fundamental understanding technical execution on key programs Identify skill gaps within the team and create a training roadmap to improve engineering excellence Lead a team of systems engineers, providing coaching and mentorship Oversight of recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new and experienced employees Employee inclusion and mentoring Performance management and career development Ability to balance the needs of the employee and the needs of the program, and willingness to engage with both Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 11 years of progressive technical experience; Master's degree with 9 years; PhD with 7 years 3+ years of leadership experience in engineering or related technical fields Strong understanding of the engineering development lifecycle across multiple engineering disciplines (SEIT, SW, HW, O&S) Top Secret Clearance /w SCI eligibility at time of application and willingness to sit for a poly Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 12 years of progressive technical experience in engineering 6+ years of leadership experience in engineering or related technical fields Understanding of business development and capture strategies, Earned Value Management/Cost Account Management (EVM/CAM), program risk management, and technical, cost, & schedule impacts as it relates to managing engineering projects Experience working on Agile programs and methodology Primary Level Salary Range: $161,100.00 - $241,700.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
