We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Neonatal Clinical Flow Coordinator within Neonatal Services at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated neonatal nurse leader with a passion for patient flow, operational management, and the delivery of high-quality, family-centred care. In this senior clinical and operational role, you will provide professional leadership across Neonatal Services, ensuring the safe, effective, and timely coordination of care for babies and their families.

Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will support both the day-to-day management of neonatal services and contribute to the strategic development of the service.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • This is a fixed-term post for 6 months, working full-time hours (36)
  • These hours will be worked Monday to Friday 0800 to 1600
  • You will be based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital

Key Responsibilities

You will provide visible senior clinical and operational leadership across Neonatal Services, coordinating patient flow and optimising bed capacity to ensure babies receive timely access to high-quality care.

Working collaboratively with medical, nursing, allied health professionals and wider multidisciplinary teams, you will support the effective management of neonatal services, minimise delays in patient care, and facilitate timely transfers and repatriation where appropriate. You will lead and support duty nursing teams, contribute to the development and implementation of operational and strategic service plans, and use quality improvement methodologies and data analysis to enhance performance, patient experience, and clinical outcomes.

Through effective leadership, you will promote a safe, efficient, and family-centred approach to care while driving continuous service improvement across Neonatal Services.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Registered Children's Nurse or Registered Neonatal Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Significant post-registration neonatal nursing experience.
  • Demonstrable experience in clinical leadership and operational management within an acute healthcare setting.
  • Experience of patient flow, capacity management, and service coordination.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies and service improvement techniques.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret data to support operational and clinical decision-making.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organisational, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships across multidisciplinary teams and partner organisations.
  • Ability to prioritise competing demands and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to delivering safe, effective, and family-centred neonatal care.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to neonatal practice and leadership.
