We are looking for an adventurous Consultant Paediatrician seeking a rewarding opportunity in an exciting and challenging regional health setting in Western Australia.


Based primarily at Kalgoorlie Health Campus, you will provide specialist paediatric care to children and families throughout the Goldfields region. The position offers the opportunity to work across diverse regional communities while experiencing the unique inland landscapes, coastal scenery and welcoming lifestyle of Western Australia.


You will deliver a broad range of general paediatric services, including inpatient, outpatient and developmental paediatric care. You will also provide senior clinical support in neonatal resuscitation, neonatology and emergency presentations.


The department includes three experienced Consultant Paediatricians and five committed trainees, including a Senior Registrar, Registrar and junior medical officers working within accredited paediatric training positions.

Job scope includes but is not limited to:

  • Provide high-quality specialist paediatric care to patients across Kalgoorlie and the wider Goldfields region.
  • Manage a broad range of general paediatric presentations in inpatient, outpatient and emergency settings.
  • Participate in developmental paediatric outpatient clinics.
  • Provide senior-level care in neonatal resuscitation and neonatology.
  • Participate in the consultant on-call roster and provide support during emergency and critical care situations.
  • Work closely with the Clinical Nurse Specialist, medical colleagues, nursing staff, allied health professionals and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Liaise with senior medical staff, hospital management and regional services to maintain a high standard of patient care.
  • Contribute to the provision of culturally appropriate healthcare for Aboriginal children, families and communities.
  • Participate in clinical governance, quality assurance and service improvement activities.
  • Assist with the development and review of clinical policies, procedures and models of care.
  • Support and supervise junior doctors, registrars and paediatric trainees.
  • Participate in teaching and professional development within accredited paediatric training positions.
  • Promote continuing professional development among colleagues while maintaining your own professional knowledge and skills.


Selection criteria

  • FRACP in Paediatrics or an equivalent specialist qualification gained overseas.
  • Overseas-trained applicants must have been assessed, or be eligible for assessment, by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
  • Must be eligible for specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Significant senior-level experience in general paediatrics.
  • Senior-level experience in neonatal resuscitation and neonatology.
  • Experience working in, or a strong understanding of, rural and regional healthcare delivery.
  • Advanced interpersonal, communication, professional relationship-building and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical governance, quality improvement and safe patient care.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary and cross-cultural environment.
  • Experience in rural and remote paediatric medicine will be highly regarded.
  • Knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, working with Australian Aboriginal communities will be highly regarded.
