Your sterile compounding expertise directly supports safe, timely , high-quality medication therapy for patients across a complex academic medical center. In this dedicated IV Room role, you will bring precision, focus, and clinical accountability to a pharmacy environment where accuracy, sterility, teamwork, and pace all matter. This is an opportunity to join a highly specialized inpatient pharmacy team focused on sterile compounding for adult and pediatric hospital patients. You will work in a dedicated IV Room environment with strong peer support, structured onboarding, and the chance to build advanced sterile compounding capability within one of the region’s leading academic health systems. The Role As a Pharmacist-Inpatient Operations Sterile Compounding IV Room , you will spend most of your workday in a focused sterile compounding environment preparing IV medications that support inpatient care. This is a dedicated IV Room position, not a rotating inpatient operations assignment, making it an excellent fit for a pharmacist who enjoys technical depth, repeatable precision, and the responsibility that comes with high-volume sterile medication preparation. You will work within a dedicated IV Room team that includes approximately 23 pharmacists and 23 pharmacy technicians, with hazardous and non-hazardous sterile compounding rooms connected by a central workroom. The environment is structured, collaborative, and built around specialized training before independent work In an average day, you will: Compound sterile IV medications for hospitalized patients while following strict sterile preparation procedures. Apply USP 797 standards and sterile technique requirements consistently in a high-detail environment. Label, prepare, and process patient medications with close attention to accuracy, sterility, and workflow demands. Support pediatric medication preparation, including preparing reservoirs for pediatric dosing and pulling patient-specific doses from prepared reservoirs. Compound medications for adult inpatient populations and cross-cover adult and pediatric areas when needed. Build independence through extensive sterile compounding instruction, dedicated pediatric training, dedicated adult training, educational modules, and progressive onboarding. Success in this role requires a pharmacist who is adaptable, coachable, team-oriented, comfortable in a busy environment, and able to follow detailed procedures closely . Strong candidates will be ready to learn UVA-specific processes, maintain pace with high-volume work, and consistently uphold sterility requirements. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: Bachelor's in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. from an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy required . Experience: No experience required . PGY-1 residency or equivalent clinical experience preferred. Licensure: Virginia State Board of Pharmacy License or within 60 days of hire. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required . PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Job requires sitting for prolonged periods; Repetitive motion: typing. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull less than 20lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. The pay range for this role is $64.37 - $87.33 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
