As a Planning Service we aim to proactively plan to help shape the City over the next 20 years and beyond, balancing the need for new homes and jobs against the need to protect the heritage and green environment We are now embarking on a new phase of regeneration and placemaking as we progress with our new Local Plan. Join us as a Planning Officer and you'll make a valuable contribution to our Planning Service; a service that brings together Development Management, Strategic Planning, Urban Design and other specialists. We have 2 posts available, both posts are full-time permanent roles within the Planning Policy Team, working 37 hours per week from Monday to Friday. You'll have the flexibility to work from our main base at City Hall or from home. This post is graded at LG Band 09. What you'll be doing As a confident planner you will lead on specific allocated projects. This will involve researching, monitoring and developing key policy areas, including, Housing, Infrastructure Retail, Employment and Design Quality. You will provide expert policy and technical guidance and recommendations on planning and related matters to participants of the local plan process. With the ability to clearly communicate, you will prepare and present evidence or reports to examinations, committees, and public meetings in your area of expertise and responsibility. What you'll need To thrive in this role you will have good fundamental and technical knowledge as well as an understanding of relevant planning legislation and policies. With experience in town planning you will be able to lead on various policy related projects as well as have an awareness of current issues affecting planning national policy and local developments. Using excellent communication and negotiation skills you will deal effectively with other professionals and stakeholders and succeed in a team environment. As a highly organised individual, you will be able to work to tight deadlines and keep planning records up to date. You will show the ability to write comprehensive and accurate planning reports and have experience of communicating management, technical and progress information in presentations, proposals, reports, and emails.
