Frazer Institute Full-time, fixed-term position until December 2027 Base salary will be in the range $85,372 - $113,659 + 17% super (Academic Level A) Based at the Translational Research Institute at our Dutton Park Campus About This Opportunity Join a visionary and highly collaborative research team at the forefront of cancer epigenomics and precision medicine. Based within UQ’s renowned Frazer Institute and Translational Research Institute, this exciting Postdoctoral Research Fellow opportunity will contribute to a major international research program funded by the US Department of Defense, focused on understanding and overcoming therapeutic resistance in uveal melanoma. Working alongside leading researchers, partner universities, and industry collaborators, you will leverage cutting-edge bioinformatics, AI, machine learning, and multi-omics technologies to drive discoveries that have the potential to transform cancer diagnosis, treatment, and patient outcomes. This is an exceptional opportunity to create meaningful impact while building your research profile within a world-class, purpose-driven environment dedicated to creating change together Key responsibilities will include : Research: Lead innovative bioinformatics research focused on cancer epigenomics, gene expression, single-cell and spatial omics, and metabolomic data analysis. Develop computational tools, apply AI and machine learning approaches to identify novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets, contribute to competitive research funding applications, publish in high-impact journals, and collaborate with national and international research partners. Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to the supervision and mentoring of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, support researcher development through coaching and feedback, foster a collaborative research culture, and assist in the effective management and development of research support staff where required. Citizenship and Service: Demonstrate leadership through collaboration and active participation in institute and university initiatives, contribute to committees and administrative activities, support colleagues and unit operations, build partnerships with industry, government and research stakeholders, and uphold UQ values through professional and inclusive engagement. About You Completion, or near completion, of a PhD in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Computational Biology, Immunology, or a related discipline. Demonstrated expertise in bioinformatics, statistical analysis, and computational methods for analysing complex biological datasets. Experience with single-cell and spatial omics technologies, including transcriptomics, metabolomics, or multi-omics data integration. Proficiency in programming languages and analytical tools such as R, Python, and machine learning frameworks. A strong track record of research outputs, including publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations. Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, and project management skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary research teams. About the Frazer Institute, UQ, TRI The Frazer Institute at the University of Queensland is a leading research centre focusing on cancer, immunology, and the genetic basis of disease. It is best known for the development by Prof Ian Frazer AC of the Gardasil cervical cancer vaccine which has saved thousands of lives. As part of the Faculty of Medicine, the Frazer Institute is situated in the Translational Research Institute (TRI) at the Princess Alexandra Hospital site in Woolloongabba, which is linked to the St Lucia and Herston UQ campuses by an easy bus ride. TRI provides world-class research facilities for commercialisation and the translation of scientific discoveries to the clinic.
