Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology / School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Full-time fixed-term position through to end of September 2029 Base salary will be in the range $85,372.89 - $113,659.72 + 17% super (Academic Level A) Based at our St Lucia Campus About This Opportunity Join a visionary and collaborative team helping to shape Australia’s net-zero energy future. We are seeking a Research Associate to contribute to the ARC Discovery Project A Reliable and Secure Net-Zero Power System for Australia , while also supporting the Clean Innovation Researcher Networks (ICIRN) project during the first six months of the appointment. Working alongside a team of seven researchers in one of Australia’s largest power systems research groups, you will apply your expertise in power electronics and controller hardware experimentation to develop, validate and deploy innovative solutions that enhance the reliability, affordability and security of renewable energy systems. This is an exciting opportunity to work with world-class facilities, build an emerging research profile, and contribute to meaningful change through high-impact research. Key responsibilities will include: Research: Lead and support research activities in power electronics, power system stability, hardware-in-the-loop testing, real-time simulation, oscillation source identification, and data-driven modelling methods for renewable energy integration. Research Outputs and Funding: Publish high-quality research outcomes, contribute to milestone reports, collaborate on competitive research funding applications, and develop an emerging international research profile. Supervision and Researcher Development: Provide support to Honours, BE/ME and Higher Degree Research students while contributing to a positive, inclusive and high-performing research environment. Citizenship and Service: Demonstrate collaborative leadership, contribute to School and University activities, build industry and community partnerships, and uphold UQ values through professional service and engagement. About You Completion or near completion of a PhD in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline. Demonstrated expertise in power electronics, renewable energy systems, or power system stability. Experience in hardware experimentation, controller implementation, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) validation. Experience with data-driven modelling techniques, real-time digital simulation, or electromagnetic transient (EMT) modelling using commercial tools. Evidence of quality research outputs, including publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals and presentations at leading conferences. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary and collaborative research team. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical reports and research documentation. Emerging evidence of contributing to student supervision, academic service, industry engagement, or collaborative research initiatives.
