A global leader in glass, ceramics, and materials science is seeking a Principal / Sr. Staff Scientist to lead the design, development, and integration of precision mechanical systems at the sub-micron level. This is a hands-on technical leadership role at the intersection of precision mechanics, optics, electronics, and software.

You'll work at the cutting edge of optical connectivity - the technology enabling AI and hyperscale data centers to move signals optically across complex networks. Precision here is measured in tenths of microns.

What You'll Do

• Lead the design and analysis of precision mechanical and opto-mechanical systems, assemblies, and components
• Drive alignment and assembly of micro-optics, fiber optics, and lenses at sub-micron tolerances
• Translate ambiguous business problems into core mechanical challenges, then define, execute, and analyze experiments to solve them
• Collaborate across optics, electronics, materials, and manufacturing teams for seamless system integration
• Apply GD&T and optical design principles to create, design, and fabricate optics that fit precisely
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship across projects and teams

What You'll Bring

• Ph.D. + 5 yrs, M.S. + 10 yrs, or B.S. + 15 yrs of relevant industrial experience in engineering
• Expert-level precision mechanical design, analysis, and fabrication
• Experience with opto-mechanical or mechatronic systems, fiber/lens alignment, and high-density connectivity
• Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and simulation (ANSYS, COMSOL)
• Exposure to electronics and software; comfort working through ambiguity in an R&D environment
