We are seeking an experienced, highly engaged private educator to serve as the primary teacher, mentor, and steady educational presence for two children, ages 5 and 7. This is a relationship-centered role for someone who combines the skill of an excellent elementary educator with the calm confidence, sound judgment, and genuine warmth needed to guide children through academic work, big emotions, changing routines, travel, and everyday family life. Academic instruction typically takes place Monday through Thursday from approximately 9:00 a.m.– 3:00 p.m., with remaining hours dedicated to lesson preparation and engaging the children in activities after academic work is complete. Fridays are generally focused on enrichment activities and outings. Flexibility is an important part of the role, and the educator must be comfortable adjusting their schedule as family needs, travel, special events, or learning opportunities arise, including occasional evenings, weekends, and overnights. Time off: Intensive periods are balanced with generous breaks, including summer, holidays, and extended leave. What You’ll Do Provide daily, in-home instruction and mentorship for two elementary-aged children using the family’s established homeschool program, while adapting lessons to each child’s learning style and needs. Collaborate closely with parents on academic goals, behavioral expectations, routines, travel schedules, and family priorities; communicate proactively about progress, challenges, and upcoming plans. Build on the core curriculum with hands-on projects, reading, arts, nature, physical activity, community outings, and other experiential learning opportunities. Familiarity with the Abeka curriculum is a plus, but not required. Support neurodiverse children using calm, consistent, developmentally appropriate strategies. ● Set clear expectations and healthy boundaries while remaining patient, warm, composed, and dependable—even during emotionally heightened moments or transitions. Remain actively engaged after formal schoolwork is complete by initiating play, creative activities, conversation, outdoor time, life-skills practice, and other meaningful connection—not simply concluding the day when lessons end. Plan weekly enrichment experiences and field trips, including a regular Friday outing, and prepare purposeful, age-appropriate, enjoyable activities. When traveling, research the destination in advance and create relevant educational and recreational experiences that connect learning to the family’s surroundings. Manage homeschool logistics, including lesson preparation, materials, organized learning spaces, progress tracking, scheduling, and safe transportation as needed. Maintain structure, composure, and consistency during travel, routine changes, and occasional parental absences, helping the children feel secure and supported. What We’re Looking For Availability: Available to start by the end of September 2026. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Child Development, or a closely related field. A master’s degree is preferred. Experience: At least two years of relevant experience teaching, mentoring, or caring for elementary-aged children; private education, governess, special education, behavioral-support, or family-based experience is strongly preferred. Behavioral expertise: Demonstrated experience supporting neurodiverse children, including children with ADHD, attention-related needs, emotional-regulation challenges, or impulse-control needs, is required. Presence: Calm, confident, firm, patient, warm, and supportive, with the ability to remain composed and consistent during challenging situations. You can establish authority without harshness and offer warmth without sacrificing consistency. Engagement: Genuinely enjoys spending time with children and naturally initiates play, activities, exploration, and connection beyond formal instruction. Planning: Proactive, organized, and able to anticipate needs, prepare ahead, and independently create thoughtful learning and enrichment plans. Communication: Strong judgment and interpersonal skills, with the maturity to build trust, receive feedback, communicate candidly, and work in close partnership with parents. Adaptability: Comfortable moving between teacher, mentor, activity planner, travel companion, and steady adult presence as the day requires. Location: Resides in or near Windermere, Florida, or is willing to relocate or commute. Relocation may be considered for an exceptional fit. Travel: Able to fulfill the role’s essential domestic travel requirements, including occasional weekends, overnights, extended trips, and short-notice travel, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
