About the opportunity
We're seeking an experienced Production Manager to take end-to-end ownership of a solar salt production operation in regional Central Queensland, producing 200,000+ tonnes of salt per annum with plans to grow further over the coming years.
This is an international recruitment search. Solar salt-making expertise is scarce in Australia, and we're actively welcoming applications from experienced salt producers overseas. Full visa sponsorship (482) and relocation support are available for the right candidate, with the business already an approved sponsor with international employees on-site.
Employment type: Full-time, permanent
Team: Leading a team of approximately 10+ people
Salary: $140K - $160K + Super + Car
Sponsorship: Full visa sponsorship and relocation support
About the role
You'll take ownership of the full production process - from pumping seawater, through evaporation and crystallisation, to harvest, washing, stacking and stockpile reconciliation. The role carries real financial accountability across inventory and cost-per-tonne performance, and requires strong judgement in managing seasonal operations and weather-related risk. You'll lead and multi-skill a team across mobile plant and specialist operations, while supporting capital improvement projects aimed at improving efficiency and field resilience.
There's strong support in place for this role - well-documented operating manuals, access to external technical consultants, and knowledge-transfer support from long-serving internal experts.
Key responsibilities
- Own end-to-end production, from seawater intake through to finished stockpile
- Manage seasonal operations and weather-related operational risk
- Lead, multi-skill and build a cohesive frontline production team
- Maintain financial accountability across inventory and cost-per-tonne metrics
- Support capital improvement and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure product consistently meets quality specifications
- Act as an escalation point for technical or process-related issues
About you
You're an experienced operational leader who thrives owning a process end-to-end, with strong judgement under variable, weather-driven conditions and a genuine ability to build and lead a team.
You will ideally have:
- Direct experience in solar salt or similar production required - international candidates welcome
- Alternatively, a strong technical background (chemical engineering or high-level chemistry), ideally with exposure to crystallisation processes
- Proven leadership experience managing frontline, multi-skilled teams
- Strong commercial acumen, with comfort managing cost and inventory-based KPIs
- Willingness to relocate to and be based on-site in regional Queensland
- Adaptability and sound judgement for managing rare, high-impact operational events
Why this role
- Rare opportunity to lead a specialist, high-impact production function
- Full visa sponsorship and relocation support for international candidates
- Strong support network - manuals, external consultants and internal mentoring
- Be part of a business investing in the long-term growth and resilience of the site
