Job Title:
Professor of Computer Science
Starting Date:
Sept 1, 2026
Contract Term:
One year, renewable upon satisfactory performance
Job Description:
The primary responsibility will be teaching undergraduate Computer Science classes. While candidates should possess the academic agility to cover diverse teaching topics, applicants specializing in the following scholarly sub-disciplines will receive highest consideration:
· Programming & Languages
· Computer Languages
· Algorithms & Data Structures
· Databases
· Object Oriented Programming
· Computer Networks
· Cybersecurity
Secondary responsibilities will include occasionally teaching survey classes in adjacent disciplines (such as Math or Physics), according to institutional needs. The incoming professor will also collaborate with the Provost and current STEM faculty on curricular matters, such as outlining major requirements and developing new courses. Class sizes and teaching hours are reasonable, and candidates will have time available to pursue personal research projects.
Qualifications:
· A Ph.D. in Computer Science or closely related field is strongly preferred
· Experience in teaching Computer Science at the undergraduate level is highly desirable
· Note: While candidates from any reputable university are welcomed to apply, candidates with degrees and/or teaching experience from U.S. and Canadian universities will receive priority consideration
· Experience in living abroad (for non-Vietnamese candidates) and working in multicultural or cross-cultural environments is a plus
American University in Vietnam:
The employer is an up-and-coming private university with an American-style curriculum. English is used as the medium of instruction for all classes and most administrative matters. AUV affords students the chance for closer interaction with faculty than would be possible in a large, state-run university. Extensive partnerships with U.S. universities offer students opportunities to transfer directly to American schools or to pursue graduate admission on advantageous terms. AUV’s campus is spacious and park-like -- full of trees, fishponds and flowers -- about a kilometer from the South China Sea. The work atmosphere is relatively relaxed by international standards but demands an ability to shift between multiple roles that would be covered by specialists in a larger institution.
Location:
Danang is an attractive coastal city located in Central Vietnam. The city is renowned for its world-class beaches and nearby attractions, such as Hoi An historic town, the Marble Mountains, the Son Tra Peninsula, and Bana Hills. The beaches of Danang and Hoi An, consisting of an almost uninterrupted 25km-stretch of sand, draw travelers from around the world. The cost of living is quite low by international standards, and the city is full of affordable restaurants (Vietnamese, international, and veg/vegan) as well as innumerable small, independent cafes. The university is 6km south of the downtown, a few minutes’ drive from public beaches and 5-star resorts. The climate of Danang is warm and tropical, with a milder rainy season each year from September to December.
Remuneration:
· Salary must be negotiated directly with HR upon receiving an offer of employment.
· Professor’s salaries are rather high by local standards and fully sufficient for comfortable living and traveling in Vietnam and the surrounding region. However, remuneration is not on the same scale as Western universities.
· The position includes a one-year work visa and Temporary Residence Certificate for Vietnam
Application Deadline:
Interested applicants should apply by July 31 for full consideration. Applications received after this date will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Note: Relocation to Danang, Vietnam is required; this is not an online position.
Contact:
Interested candidates should send a CV and cover letter to Mr. Raymond Phan – HR Manager. His email address: [email protected].
