Quantum Laboratory & Integration Specialist

(permanent position, 40 hours per week)

Contact: (819) 975-4654, [email protected]

About Nord Quantique

At Nord Quantique, we strive to build impactful technology by relentlessly pushing our understanding of quantum science. We are an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, innovators, builders, and enthusiasts on a mission to make quantum computing a reality. Our quantum processors are designed to reduce errors in quantum computation to facilitate long-term scaling toward fully-fledged quantum computers. We believe it is our responsibility to deliver this transformative technology for the greater good of society.

Located at the heart of the beautiful Eastern Townships region in the province of Quebec, Canada, we develop our technology in the vibrant quantum ecosystem of Sherbrooke. Leaning on more than a decade of vertical integration of quantum hardware, we are leveraging a comprehensive pool of quantum technology and micro-electronic infrastructure to deploy our quantum computing technology.

Our current needs

Nord Quantique is looking for a Quantum Laboratory & Integration Specialist to support the assembly, integration, operation, commissioning, and continuous improvement of quantum hardware systems and cryogenic experimental platforms.

Working closely with scientists, engineers, and technical staff, you will contribute to the physical integration and assembly of quantum processors, dilution refrigerators, and the preparation and execution of laboratory activities required for cutting-edge quantum computing research and development including but not limited to microwave and electrical hardware, instrumentation racks, vacuum systems, and associated laboratory infrastructure. You will play a key role in ensuring that our laboratory infrastructure, experimental platforms, and quantum hardware systems operate reliably and efficiently.

A key part of the role is to help transform complex experimental setups into increasingly reliable, documented, and repeatable configurations. You will contribute not only to building and troubleshooting systems, but also to capturing as-built configurations, identifying recurring integration issues, and improving procedures, tooling, and assembly practices as Nord Quantique’s hardware capabilities mature.

This is a highly hands-on role at the interface between laboratory operations, quantum hardware integration, and characterization. The ideal candidate is practical, resourceful, detail-oriented, and motivated by building complex physical systems that work reliably.

Working in close collaboration with technical and engineering staff at Nord Quantique, the chosen candidate will:

  • Assemble, integrate, and prepare quantum devices, experimental hardware, and laboratory systems for testing and operation.
  • Install, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot cryogenic refrigeration systems and associated laboratory infrastructure.
  • Assemble mechanical, electrical, vacuum, cryogenic, and instrumentation subsystems used in quantum computing experiments.
  • Prepare laboratory setups, experimental configurations, tooling, fixtures, and support equipment while assisting researchers and engineers during experimental campaigns and system commissioning.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, diagnostics, and technical troubleshooting on laboratory equipment, infrastructure, and experimental platforms.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve laboratory procedures, work instructions, technical documentation, maintenance records, and operational best practices.
  • Support laboratory operations through inventory management, equipment tracking, laboratory organization, material handling, and adherence to safety standards.
  • Participate in R&D and continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing laboratory processes, reliability, efficiency, scalability, and the transition of experimental concepts into robust operational systems.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required

  • DEC or technical diploma in a relevant technical field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant hands-on experience; or a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, engineering physics, physics, applied sciences, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in technical assembly, laboratory operations, system integration, equipment maintenance, commissioning, or troubleshooting.
  • Experience working from technical drawings, procedures, assembly instructions, and engineering documentation.

Preferred

  • Experience working in cryogenic, vacuum, semiconductor, photonics, quantum technology, aerospace, scientific instrumentation, or advanced R&D environments.
  • Experience supporting laboratory operations, hardware integration, or experimental research activities.
  • Experience with cleanroom environments and contamination control practices.
  • Experience collaborating closely with scientists and engineers in a research setting.

Sought Expertise and Knowledge

  • Hands-on assembly and integration of complex mechanical, electrical, microwave, vacuum, instrumentation, or cryogenic systems.
  • Mechanical assembly, instrumentation, vacuum systems, and experimental platform preparation.
  • Technical troubleshooting, diagnostics, and root cause analysis of laboratory equipment and systems.
  • Ability to translate hands-on knowledge into clear procedures, checklists, work instructions, and improved assembly practices.
  • Technical documentation, procedure development, and laboratory process optimization.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, precision, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced R&D environment.

Sought Profile

  • Highly hands-on, practical and detail-oriented.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Curious and motivated by scientific discovery and advanced technology.
  • Organized and disciplined in following procedures, documenting work, and maintaining traceability.
  • Collaborative and effective when working with technicians, engineers, scientists, and other technical staff.
  • Comfortable working in multidisciplinary environments.
  • Able to work independently once trained while knowing when to escalate technical issues.
  • Demonstrates initiative and autonomy.
  • Adaptable and resourceful when addressing technical challenges.
  • Capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic R&D environment.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • Passionate about building and maintaining world-class laboratory capabilities that enable breakthrough research.
