Job Summary

An attractive opportunity has arisen to join the Radiology Department at the Great Western Hospital as a Band 5 Radiographer

The successful candidate will conduct diagnostic radiological examinations across a range of clinical specialities, adapting techniques to accommodate a range of patient types; both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal requirements.

Main duties of the job


  • To independently assess and justify referrals under IR(ME)R 2000 following practitioner guidelines where appropriate
  • To interpret Clinician's requirements, to determine the appropriate radiographic imaging technique and ensure that it is performed in accordance with best practice and that the resultant images are diagnostic
  • To work out of hours to support the Radiology services offered at Great Western Hospitals; including night shifts and weekends
  • To undertake CT scans when trained in the absence of a Radiologist according to agreed protocols once trained
  • To use the departmental radiology information computer system (CRIS) as required and be conversantwith the picture archive communication system (PACS)
  • To undertake Quality Control procedures, including Quality Assurance testing for image quality andequipment safety
  • To undertake and participate in clinical audit and research and to act on the findings where possibleand provide statistical information on the work load when necessary
  • To provide a service within the community hospital's as part of a band 5 rotation
  • To complete all imaging requests in a timely manner

Job responsibilities

The Radiology Department undertakes approximately 251,300 examinations a year ranging over a variety of modalities. The successful applicant will be a keen team player who has image quality and patient care high on their agenda with a flexible approach to working hours. The department supports the development of your clinical skills and education, we encourage staff CPD.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Qualifications Essential


  • Degree in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent
  • Registered with the Health Care Professions Council
  • General Radiographic training


Desirable


  • Evidence of CPD
  • Intravenous cannulation


Experience Essential


  • General experience in Radiography
  • Worked within NHS setting


Desirable


  • CT Experience.
