The Role Acute General Medicine encompasses seven inpatient units: 3 East, 3 Central, 3 West, 3 North, 4 North, 4 Central, and 6 Central. While each unit has unique characteristics and patient populations, all share a commitment to outstanding patient care, teamwork, and professional nursing practice. In this role, you will care for adult patients experiencing a wide variety of medical conditions and disease processes in a fast-paced acute care environment. Depending on the unit, patient populations may include individuals requiring epilepsy monitoring, oncology-related care, ketamine treatment, specialty post-surgical care, and management of diverse high-acuity medical conditions. A typical day may include: Delivering comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to adult medicine patients Performing ongoing patient assessments and identifying changes in clinical condition Collaborating closely with physicians, hospitalists, pharmacists, therapists, case managers, and other interdisciplinary team members Managing patients with complex diagnoses and multiple comorbidities Coordinating care plans and supporting safe patient transitions Educating patients and families on treatment plans and recovery goals Participating in shared governance, practice councils, quality initiatives, and nursing committees Utilizing advanced clinical technologies including Epic EMR, Pyxis medication systems, and Alaris infusion pumps Serving as a preceptor, mentor, charge nurse, or pursuing future leadership opportunities One of the unique advantages of General Medicine at UVA Health is the opportunity to care for higher-acuity medical patients while developing advanced assessment, prioritization, and clinical decision-making skills in a nationally recognized academic medical environment. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire. Experience: 1 year of relevant experience. Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. The pay range for this role is $39.90 - $53.00 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
