Who will you be working with? You will be part of the Electronics Hardware team, working closely with electrical engineers, systems engineers, manufacturing teams, suppliers, and cross-functional stakeholders. This team develops advanced power and control electronics solutions used in locomotives and surface mining trucks, supporting innovative technologies in demanding industrial environments. How will you make a difference? As a Senior Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development of ruggedized electronic products by leading the mechanical packaging design of complex electronic assemblies. Your work will ensure products meet stringent thermal, structural, environmental, and performance requirements while supporting manufacturability, quality, and cost objectives. You will contribute directly to the reliability and success of technologies that power critical transportation and mining applications worldwide. What will your typical day look like? Collaborate with electrical and systems engineers to design and model complex electronic assemblies that integrate PCBs, interconnects, and mechanical enclosures. Design electronic enclosures and optimize panel architectures to achieve performance, testability, manufacturability, and cost targets. Research and select connectors and interconnect solutions that meet project requirements. Apply industry best practices for ruggedized electronics, including thermal management, EMC considerations, shock, and vibration requirements. Create finite element models to evaluate structural, fatigue, and dynamic performance of new products. Perform thermal simulations of electronic assemblies and conduct thermal mitigation trade studies involving active and passive cooling methods. Analyze mechanical assemblies, including bolted joints, tolerance stack-ups, and GD&T requirements. Prepare and release engineering documentation such as drawings, bills of materials, calculations, and purchase specifications. Lead technical design reviews with internal and external stakeholders. Support supplier selection activities, production launches, and PPAP documentation. Plan and execute validation and qualification testing of products, components, and assemblies. Drive technical problem solving through innovation, collaboration, and sound engineering practices. Manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment while maintaining project schedules and deliverables. What do we want to know about you? Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. 10+ years of experience designing mechanical packaging for electronic products. Proficiency with 3D CAD software, preferably Siemens NX. Experience with thermal and structural analysis tools such as ANSYS, Icepak, or CFD software. Knowledge of PCB integration, connectors, and interconnect systems. Understanding of thermal management, EMC, shock and vibration, and environmental requirements for ruggedized electronics. Experience with manufacturing support, product validation, and design for manufacturability. Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and project management skills; ability to travel up to 10%. What about the physical demands of the job? Primarily office and engineering laboratory environment. Regular use of computer workstations and engineering software. Occasional interaction with manufacturing facilities, prototype builds, and test environments. Ability to travel up to 10% as required. Ability to safely access manufacturing and testing areas while following all applicable safety procedures. You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary. This role is also eligible for a performance bonus.
