Prioritized Must Have Skills for the Senior Firmware Engineer(BE):
#1. 3+ years of experience in SSD controller and firmware development, with hands-on experience in NAND flash management.
#2. Strong C/C++ programming and data structures experience in embedded software/firmware development.
#3. Hands-on experience with NAND operations, including program, read, erase, bad block management, read-retry, and error recovery.
#4. Experience with DRAM bring-up, memory controller configuration, timing optimization, training, and stability validation.
#5. Hands-on experience with SSD boot-up flows, JTAG/ICE debugging, and hardware/firmware debugging using logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.
Responsibilities of the Senior Firmware Engineer(BE):
- NAND Management
- Maintain NAND flash operation flows, including program, read, and erase sequences across multiple channels, dies, and planes.
- Implement bad block management, read-retry mechanisms, and error recovery flows to ensure data integrity.
- Analyze and mitigate NAND-specific issues such as read disturb, program disturb, retention loss, and endurance degradation.
- Optimize parallelism to fully utilize NAND bandwidth and improve throughput under mixed workloads.
- DRAM Bring-Up and Stability Verification
- Configure memory controller parameters, timing settings, and power-on sequences.
- Verify DRAM read/write correctness through functional and stress testing.
- SSD Boot-Up Flow
- Maintain the SSD boot-up sequence, including firmware loading and system initialization.
- Peripheral Control and FW/HW Interface
- Develop firmware for peripherals such as temperature sensors, power monitors, and GPIO-based controls.
- Debug and Validation
- Capture and analyze NAND waveforms using logic analyzers and oscilloscopes to verify timing compliance.
- Debug DRAM initialization, training, and boot-up-related issues, providing root-cause analysis and firmware fixes.
Requirements of the Senior Firmware Engineer(BE):
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in software/firmware applications engineering.
- At least 3 years of experience with SSD controller/firmware architecture.
- Strong experience in C/C++ programming and data structures.
- Hands-on experience with JTAG/ICE debuggers.
- Experience with version control software such as Git.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small team.
- Must be willing to learn quickly and work effectively as a team player.
- Strong oral, written, and presentation skills for communication and documentation.
- Ability to work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and bus protocol analyzers.
- Familiarity with SATA/PCIe (NVMe) protocols.
- Familiarity with NAND flash protocols.
- Linux system debugging experience.
- Fluency in reading and writing Mandarin preferred.
